Clinical Pathology and Diagnostics Industrial Placement
What does a Clinical Pathology and Diagnostics Industrial Placement have to offer?
We now have an opportunity for an Industrial Placement Clinical Pathologist to join us for a one year placement. The successful candidate will assist in laboratory analysis, using different assays and technologies utilised in the pre-clinical safety assessment of exploratory medicines. Laboratory technology and techniques used include; clinical chemistry, haematology and microbiology automated instruments, immunoassays (including ELISAs, Luminex technology, and MesoScale Discovery technology), automated electrophoresis, and tissue gene expression analysis (using Taqman quantitative PCR technology). Whilst the emphasis is on the candidate developing practical experience in clinical pathology, they will also be required to undertake a small project. This is likely to occur later in the placement, the topic will be determined nearer the time, with the aim of contributing to the analytical capability of the department.
In addition to the development of analytical skills at the bench level, the placement will facilitate development of the scientific skill set of the successful candidate. This will involve scientific review of specific literature, data analysis/interpretation and presentation of findings, both verbally and written, and the correlation of findings with other investigations.
