"Herbert Smith Freehills has launched a Trainee Women Lawyers Network which has provided a helpful forum to discuss issues relating to women in the workplace."
First year trainee, London
"The firms is massively committed to diversity: you only have to look around to see it. Two examples include how Herbert Smith Freehills is rated highly by Stonewall and is one of the few firms to set a target of 30% of women making up the partnership by 2019."
Second year trainee, London
"While we could do better on black and ethnic minority representation, we do have a good focus on diversity in other areas. We have a target of 30% women as partners. The overwhelming majority of partners are men, but most of the associates I work with are women. The numbers are changing in the right direction and I do feel like the culture of the firm is conducive to a diverse workforce."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is very committed to diversity: there are networks for ethnic minorities, LGBT individuals and women. Flexi-working is developing, but it is becoming more common and is now a standard policy for all qualified solicitors."
Second year trainee, London
"Herbert Smith Freehills is very forward-thinking and sets the trend among City firms."

"Fantastic diversity programme and overall the firm is leagues ahead of other firms. It is disappointing that trainees aren't invited to be involved in the Women Lawyers' Network, as this goes against the spirit of inclusion and support that the network should embody."
First year trainee, London
"Firm has plenty of programmes and networks and is a very inclusive environment. We don't have a 'school ties and rowing blazers' attitude."
Second year trainee, Hong Kong
"I think the firm is exceptional in this area - there are a wide range of formal networks, initiatives and events. You get a sense of genuine commitment to diversity in all areas and it really distinguishes the firm from others in the market."
First year trainee, London
"Flexible working is encouraged and the LGBT community is thriving."
First year trainee, London
"HSF has very active groups in this area. I'm an active member of the LGBT group and very proud of how strong the firm is in this area."
First year trainee, London
"There are lots of people working flexible hours and generally diverse ethnic backgrounds in trainee intakes."
First year trainee, London
"HSF tries unbelievably hard to the point of mandatory diversity training. They genuinely recruit a wide range of people too. And they're trying with the partners. Substantially better than other firms I reckon."
Second year trainee, London
"HSF has great women in business programmes, mandatory diversity training, a huge LGBT network and very diverse intakes from all over the world."

"I believe the firm genuinely strives to be inclusive of people with all sorts of needs, associates and PAs in my group have flexible working hours and sometimes work from home. One associate works from home regularly every week. Statistically we could do better to have a more diverse partnership, but it seems they do make efforts to try and be inclusive and appreciate everyone's needs."
First year trainee, London
"From what I can gather, HSF places an emphasis on diversity. The numbers of male/female at both trainee and associate level are relatively equal. The firm has an LGBT network. Additionally some employees who have families work to various patterns (e.g three day weeks; working from home one day a week, etc.) And the firm seems to accommodate this."
First year trainee, London
"I think it depends what stage of your career the diversity stats look at. For example, at trainee level, it is entirely diverse. At partner level, possibly less so."
