Interview Process

2014

"There was a critical thinking test, a group negotiation and an interview with a partner and senior HR member."
Second year trainee, London
"I interviewed for a vacation scheme first. I had to complete an online critical thinking test and have a face to face interview with partners. Once I was on the vacation scheme, we did a 'group exercise' where we were divided into groups and given a hypothetical new deal or legal topic to discuss. At the end of the vacation scheme, there were training contract interviews offered."
Second year trainee, London
"I attended a vacation placement, for which I had to pass a test and sit several interviews. After the placement I was interviewed again."
First year trainee, London
"There was an online application and Watson Glaser test then an assessment day which comprised re-sitting the test, a group exercise and interview with two partners."
First year trainee, London
"I completed an application form, which was followed by a short but effective recruitment day. This included an interview as well as group tasks and a test."
Second year trainee, London
"I went through a two part interview process for the vacation scheme. The vacation scheme also concluded with an interview for a training contract. The number of people who are offered training contracts compared to the applicants is very small."
Second year trainee, London
"When I was hired, there was an online test, and an assessment day. The process is straightforward and feels transparent, but the competition is obviously very strong."

2013

"Interview was quite relaxed. Discussed my application, motivation for applying, and one 'commercial awareness' question on why the property market crashed. My interviewer was particularly interested in my work experience at similar law firms."
Second year trainee, London
"The process involved an online critical thinking test, followed by an assessment day, involving a group exercise, interview and the paper-based Watson-Glaser test. Interview questions were sensible and seemed designed to discover more about you as a person and how pleasant you would be to work with, rather than just your academic record."
Second year trainee, Paris
"Generally the interview process was quite relaxed, although this must vary with the personality of the interviewing partner(s). The group exercise is collaborative and they're not looking for people who talk over everyone else - they're looking for people who it would be pleasant to work with and not aggressive sharks."
First year trainee, London
"The interview process was welcoming and not too daunting. The types of questions asked concerned reasons for wanting to work in City law and questions designed to subtly test commercial awareness."
First year trainee, London
"I had a really straightforward interview with no irritating HR-type questions or silly scenarios. I was asked a couple of commercial awareness questions and then a few things related to my application form."
Second year trainee, London
