I applied in 2017 for a 2019 training contract, and was fortunately offered a training contract with the firm after partaking in the Legal Work Placement that summer. I chose IM for several reasons, firstly because I could sense the firm's ambition and was excited to see how the firm would evolve in the forthcoming years. Secondly, the people and the culture of the firm really sold it to me. During the vacation scheme veryone was extremely friendly and I knew I would be supported as a trainee, working in such an inclusive working environment.

I have taken on various additional roles since commencing my PORT, such as becoming the BLS trainee rep for the Southampton office, being a member of the charity committee and a member of the social committee. I have also got involved in BD events, and am currently in the process of organising my own trainee recruitment event - an informal pizza and quiz night. I have also organised a Halloween Bake Off competition in aid of our office charity.

As a BLS trainee, I am on a 4 x 6 monthly rotation. I am currently in my first seat, doing a split seat with the Corporate team and the Tax team and am thoroughly enjoying it as no two days are the same. I have had a great variety of work and had an unexpected amount of client contact from an early stage, dealing with start-up companies to large multinational organisations. I have especially enjoyed working with start-up tech companies, as I am learning so much about modern business and blockchain from their business strategies alone, which also really complements my corporate legal training.

In terms of training, when we joined we underwent a 2 week induction in Sheffield and Birmingham, which encompassed the first part of our PSC course. There is also on going training, related both to your area of work and your own personal development, offered by the firm.
