Interview Process

2014

"The application process consisted of an application form, a telephone interview, a two week legal work placement and an interview on the final day of the work placement."
Second year trainee, Manchester
"The interview process and assessments were tough. I had to complete a detailed application form, followed by a competency phone interview. I then attended an assessment centre. Following this I was offered a place on the vacation scheme, where I had to complete an article and have a final interview with a partner. It was a long process but everyone was friendly and approachable and it could even be enjoyable at times."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"Initially there was an online application, this involved answering several questions and completing a covering letter. This was followed by a telephone interview and then an assessment centre. If you were successful you were invited to complete the vacation scheme, which included a piece of work to be handed in separate to the work being completed during the days and an interview."

"Through my own personal experience, I applied for a training contract at Irwin Mitchell internally having worked as a paralegal for one year. I had an assessment centre which included an interview and was then told that I was being offered a training contract. I feel that the process is similar to other law firms and that my experiences having worked as a paralegal for a year helped me during my interview as I had some good examples to talk about. The assessment centre was at our Sheffield office and consisted of a group exercise, instructions taking exercise and an interview."

"I think the recruitment process is very fair. It is hard but if you are good, the process allows you to do well. For example, there is no psychometric testing."
