About Roger

I graduated from Real Estate Management and Business from Liverpool John Moores University.

Journey to JLL

After graduating I secured a position on the JLL graduate scheme and commenced work about 18 months ago. Prior to joining the graduate scheme I took time out to work and travel in Australia and Asia before returning home to gain industry experience at a smaller Chartered Surveyors and also spent six months working in a residential estate agency working as an assistant residential valuer.

The job

I have been at JLL for just over a year and currently in my second rotation on the graduate scheme. My first six months was spent in the Rating department and I now work within the West End Valuation team. Each year the JLL valuation team underpins decisions on around £210 billion of UK commercial property across multiple sectors. The West End valuation team provide a range of valuations for loan security, due diligence for sales and acquisitions, portfolio valuations and for accounting purposes typically for assets within the West End of London. I have worked on a variety of projects from a development appraisal for residential to office conversion in Bloomsbury to providing a purchase report for a mixed use building on Regent Street. I also carry out quarterly valuations for a number of properties within the west end which sit within a larger fund. All of these require me to talk to agents within JLL and outside of JLL to find out the latest rental and investment transactions that have taken place, ensuring that we have the most up to date information when providing the valuations.

Outside of work

Aside from work, the London property scene is always bustling with networking opportunities which is a great way to meet people both within and outside of JLL. There are a number of social events to attend and I am part of the JLL (LGBT) Building Pride which often has organised drinks at different companies every couple of months. JLL offers a number of events including the JLL triathlon and 5k run, all of which raise money for our charity partner Starlight. Myself and a few other graduates were able to secure a place in the Prudential Ride London 100 mile cycle to raise money for Starlight, this involved various fundraising events including a charity pub quiz, cake sales and a bacon sandwich drop at the office.
