Types of work
London’s critical financial centre is a magnet for multi-jurisdictional transactions and disputes which rely on English Law for their documentation and resolution. Our London lawyers are perfectly placed to address the most demanding and complex global matters: including cross-border M&A; real estate and finance transactions (including banking, capital markets, investment funds, private equity and structured finance); global disputes; and regulatory matters involving the UK, US and other authorities. Additional specialist areas include business restructuring; competition/antitrust; corporate criminal investigations; corporate tax planning; employment & pensions; intellectual property; and projects & infrastructure.
In our rare and distinctive non-rotational training system, you will seek and receive work from all departments at the same time, to provide flexibility, responsibility, faster development of potential and the opportunity to compare and contrast different disciplines alongside one another. Because you won’t move department every six months, you won’t miss the end of deals or trials you have worked on. Work will vary from small cases which you may handle alone (under the supervision of a senior lawyer) to larger matters where you will assist a partner or an associate solicitor. The Firm runs a structured seminar programme to support the practical teaching you will receive from associates and partners with whom you work. A rotating six-month secondment to Dubai for one trainee is also available.
Who should apply
As leaders in cross-border M&A and global disputes, we look for extraordinary individuals who are committed to a legal career; want to be challenged on an international platform; and can become partners of the future – not just qualify with us. Around half of our London partners trained with the Firm. Successful candidates have a minimum 2.1 degree in any discipline and AAA/36 at A-level/IB. 60% of our trainees are non-law graduates and 30% were graduates/postgraduates when they applied to us. You will need strong intellectual and analytical ability, good communication skills, and to demonstrate resourcefulness, drive and dedication.
Key application information
We mainly recruit through our placement schemes in the Winter, Spring and Summer vacations; but sometimes will make exceptions for those who are unable to complete them. To apply for a training contract, apply for a placement scheme.

Whilst we are currently recruiting for Training Contracts with start dates for September 2020, we may see fit to recruit into intakes with earlier start dates if places are available and suitable candidates are identified who can start sooner. We recruit on a rolling basis and cannot guarantee availability, so apply early.
All our schemes are open to final year undergraduates, graduates, postgraduates and career changers from any degree discipline; and to penultimate year undergraduates undertaking a qualifying law degree.
