"There had been some concern among trainees as last year's retention numbers were lower than expected. However, this year, most of us applying for jobs on qualification were offered them, so we expect a high retention rate."

"Given the firm's reputation for being a corporate heavyweight and litigation 'powerhouse' (the firm loves promoting that), the vast majority of trainees gravitate towards those practice areas, which can make these places quite competitive, but this naturally creates other opportunities. In any event, the training system here enables trainees to develop quickly and thus makes trainees attractive propositions to other firms."
First year trainee, London
"Last year's retention rates were not very encouraging. However, this year's offer rate has been high so we're expecting much better in terms of retention."
Second year trainee, London
"The retention rates are expected to be good despite a reduced retention rate last year. However, I know that I have received the best training that I could have wanted and I am in a good position should I find myself moving on instead."
Second year trainee, London
"They are generally good with a slight dip last year. Not a great worry."
Second year trainee, London
"Retention rates have historically been extremely good at the firm, particularly in the light of market fluctuations over the past few years. However, last year, rates did dip quite significantly. This was unfortunate but ultimately has not changed my belief in the firm's position that it recruits with a view to long-term employment and promotion."
Second year trainee, London
"Generally strong although they dipped last year."
