"This varies from seat to seat - in the Motor team I was exposed to clients/witnesses regularly and given the conduct of my own files. In the team that I am currently in client interaction is supervised, but client lunches, phone calls and emails are ongoing."
First year trainee, Sheffield
"I feel that I have a lot of day-to-day responsibility both running files and interacting with clients. I regularly find myself out at court, at conferences with counsel and at site visits. I also regularly attend client events and seminars. I have always felt like a valued member of the team since my first day here and I have been given plenty of tasks to develop my drafting and advocacy skills."
Second year trainee, Sheffield
"Client interaction for me has varied greatly between teams. However, the level of supervision is very good throughout, and I would say that people have a lot of time for the trainees."
First year trainee, London
"I have been given a large amount of responsibility from the beginning of the training all the way through, and this includes interaction with clients. There are also opportunities to do client secondments as seats."
Second year trainee, London
"In the office, I believe that client interaction can be quite limited, however, there are many secondment opportunities to develop your client base. Common responsibilities include drafting letters; witness statements and directions; research and review tasks."
Second year trainee, London
"I am currently on client secondment so I am constantly meeting connected clients."
First year trainee, London
"I have had lots of client interaction and responsibility in my role. I am often required to manage my own cases and liaise with clients, opposition solicitors, experts and witnesses."
First year trainee, London
"I have excellent variety in my day-to-day role, and I would say that the firm is very happy to get trainees involved in running smaller claims and assisting in high-value matters."
Second year trainee, London
"I am currently on a client secondment - so client interaction is great!"
First year trainee, London
"I have been involved in and contributed to every single part of the litigation process. I have even been able to run my own cases."
First year trainee, London
"As a trainee your day-to-day responsibilities can vary but once you are heavily involved in a matter you are able to take on a good workload and earn your spot to better work. Client interaction can vary but there is plenty for those who are proactive."
Second year trainee, London

"Client interaction and responsibilities given vary depending on the team. In some, the role can limited to dictations, writing up witness statements, instructions to Counsel and the like. In other teams you can expect to run your own files and report back to the client with minimal supervision."
Second year trainee, London
"You get a lot of client contact here and you are encouraged to handle a lot of responsibility at an early stage."
First year trainee, London
"Work varies greatly from team to team. Some teams, such as liability, have very hands on approach when it comes to junior lawyers. Others require you to work your way up from more administrative tasks before you get any 'real work' experience."
Second year trainee, London
"The level of work you are exposed to is great. You are given substantial jobs to do rather than boring jobs like photocopying! After only four weeks I have not had much client interaction yet, however, the trainees in the second year have and I therefore expect a lot more in the future."
First year trainee, London
"I have been given a lot of responsibility from day one; from drafting documents, including witness statements and applications to court, to speaking on the phone to clients and experts, so the exposure is excellent."
First year trainee, London
"As a second year trainee, I have had great exposure to work and a great deal of client interaction, during meetings, events and formal hearings. Day-to-day responsibilities are high - if you prove you are capable of dealing with the work you will be awarded with more challenging and significant work."
Second year trainee, London
"My role involves letter writing at all stages of the case, telephoning people to do research on quantum, summaries of medical reports, quantum reports, etc."
First year trainee, Sheffield
"As a first year, I have found that client interaction on a day-to-day basis can be limited. However, the fee earners will often invite you to attend meetings and client drinks. The nature of the work you do on a day-to-day basis is actually very legal. There are lots of research tasks on points in case law, along with drafting and some matter administration."
First year trainee, London
