"I do find that my working hours are not particularly flexible. My hours are okay at the moment, and I am leaving at around 7:30-8:00pm."

"If you have transactions going through it will be long hours, if there is a lighter workload then trainees can go for longer lunches."

"Understandably, my hours are not very flexible in my current department (as so much work is based on hard copy). My hours are okay at the moment - I'm usually done by 8:00pm, but once or twice a week I will be in late."
First year trainee, London
"Generally the hours are okay and usually finish by 7:00pm. Trainees can work very long hours at busy times in transactional departments, but staff are flexible if you need to take time off for appointments, etc."
First year trainee, London
"When there is work that needs doing it has to be done, but when you're not busy they are happy for you to leave at 6-6:30pm. When you have commitments staff are sympathetic and are happy to work around them."

"The hours vary by department. For most of the corporate departments there are peaks and troughs. If you have a specific personal appointment/event in your diary the firm is quite good at ensuring that you can attend it. If because of work you cannot attend an evening social event that you have booked e.g. the theatre, the firm will usually pay you back for the tickets."

"Although there is not much flexibility or visibility, generally, my hours have been good at trainee level."

"In any City law firm occasionally you will have to work long hours. Generally speaking I think the hours here are pretty reasonable in that context, and I have heard of far worse hours in other firms than the hours I have experienced here."
Second year trainee, London
"Most people at the firm start between 9 to 9:30am, and the average leaving time in this department is around 7:00pm."
First year trainee, London
"I have not experienced any crazy hours thus far but it is still early days. People seem free to manage their own workload and the hours that they work (early risers/late night owls), although of course when there is a deadline there is little choice."
First year trainee, London
"The hours depend on the department that you are in. Half of the firm seems to leave at 6:30pm but in other seats you don't ever leave before 10:00pm."
