"Latham seems to have a very flat structure and isn't hierarchical in the way I've heard some other firms are. Even though I'm only a first-seat trainee, I am not treated differently, which I really appreciate."
First year trainee, London
"There's a great team feel in all of the teams I have been in. They have all been sociable and fun."
Second year trainee, London
"It's supportive and friendly in the office and all team members are approachable, regardless of their apparent place in the hierarchy. There are also good opportunities for socialising within the trainee cohort."
Second year trainee, London
"Latham has what I would consider to be a very flat culture. The nature of law firms means that all firms are hierarchical in a sense but everyone at Latham is approachable at all levels, both during work and outside of it. Out of hours socials are plentiful at Latham and include weekly drinks trolleys, external events, annual retreats and more."
First year trainee, London
"Everybody is very approachable and you even feel comfortable talking to very senior associates and partners on matters that you may think are trivial. There's a real open-door policy. Everyone is always willing to explain the reasons behind your work to give you some context rather than just 'do this, do that' and this makes the learning experience much more effective."
First year trainee, London
"The culture of the firm is a standout characteristic. There are a lot of really nice and interesting people and the firm makes people feel comfortable regardless of their background."

"Friendly, open-door culture; always numerous after-work drinks being organised and sports activities within the office. Generally people are sympathetic towards the long hours; very much a culture of team work."
First year trainee, London
"Excellent culture. Friendly, non-hierarchical, open door policy. Due to the smaller intakes, it is very apparent to me that the firm can choose candidates that fit in with the laid-back, friendly culture. The firm is not forced (by need of numbers) to derogate from that."
Second year trainee, London / Hong Kong
"I like the fact we are a smaller intake of approximately 24 trainees. This means you build a good relationship with each individual."
First year trainee, London
"People work incredibly hard, whether it's day or night, weekday or weekend, but you still hear plenty of laughter in the corridors. A sense of humour makes all of the difference."
First year trainee, London
"People are friendly and approachable and there is an open-door policy. The dress code is business casual and we have casual Fridays. People take their work very seriously, but not so much that they develop an ego."
First year trainee, London
"Generally social and friendly. After-work events take place on a regular basis. Mostly non-hierarchical."
First year trainee, London

"The culture does vary by department, but overall there is a very open and relaxed culture."
First year trainee, London
"The firm has good socialising in a relaxed culture, and there is easy interaction between partners and trainees."
Second year trainee, London
"Everyone at Latham & Watkins is so friendly! The trainees in particular get along very well - there is a trainee table at our on-site restaurant at lunch every day, or if the weather is nice we will go out for lunch in groups. We all help each other and the atmosphere is very collegiate and non-competitive."
First year trainee, London
"It does vary across teams, but overall the hierarchy is flat, and people will invite trainees out for drinks and to socialise."
First year trainee, London
"Everyone I've worked for is approachable, friendly and likes to have a laugh, so there is a great culture here."
Second year trainee, London
