The 6 month – 1 year Industrial Placement Graduate Programme

We have created a programme across our UK sites, that not only increase your technical skills but gives you the opportunity to work on meaningful real life projects alongside experienced engineers and graduates across our business. You will receive coaching and support to achieve your personal goals and work in multidisciplinary teams to gain as much experience across the product lifecycle from your time in industry, as possible. Our ultimate aim is to see you through your undergrad years and hopefully offer you a place on our 2 year Graduate Development programme at an appropriate time.

Industrial Placement Manufacturing and Supply Chain (IEG) Job Description

This role will involve successful candidates undertaking a mini project, or set of tasks within Manufacturing and Supply Chain (M&SC) in line with Industrial Engineering requirements of the current strategy map.

The project or tasks will be designed to improve deployment , execution & embedding of the M&SC Way into the culture within Edinburgh M&SC while endow the candidates with practical work experience of deploying lean culture & tools in an operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, the employee will join team(s) from a number of disciplines to execute an Industrial Engineering project Under the leadership and guidance of an M+SC sponsor, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate that they can adapt quickly to new challenges, learn the key aspects of the business processes that require to be analysed and improved and work on an agreed set of tasks to achieve a successful outcome.

In this role inter-personal and communication skills across a number of levels in the business are required. In addition, independent research into relevant processes and technologies will assist understanding.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and delivering the required outcome of a mini project or set of tasks
  • Liaising with key stakeholders/ experts within M+SC to gain understanding of the parameters of the project or tasks
  • Maintaining a log book of the project/tasks to professional standards
  • Reporting progress on a regular basis to supervision
  • Preparing and presenting a final report on success/outcomes

Role Requirements

You must be able to obtain BPSS and SC security clearance (if necessary) and have a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK.

Candidates are expected to be in further education working towards a 2:1 or higher in a BSc, BEng or MEng degree discipline (for example Aerospace Engineering/Manufacturing/Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Engineering Management, Engineering Materials, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Physics and Mathematics) you should also have an appropriate gap in studies.

A basic knowledge of Lean tools & techniques, manufacturing processes, continuous improvement methods, reporting and presentation skills are required.

Skills in MS Office tools are required specifically, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

What can I expect from my working environment?

Office & Production Floor based role with display screen equipment. Role will require the individual to visit and work within controlled manufacturing areas with appropriate protective garments
