Graduate Hardware Engineer Job Description

The Leonardo Luton site is home to the Electronics Warfare (EW) and Air-Systems UK (ASUK) Lines of Business, both part of the Airborne and Space Systems Division. The Division develops and produces a wide range of products and solutions for both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms.

A Graduate Hardware Engineer is needed to join the Electronic Engineering Function to work alongside some of the most talented people in the UK. You will support the development world leading technologies across multiple domains including Avionics, Electronic Warfare and Unmanned Systems.

This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled electronics team at either the Luton or Basildon site. We are experts in the design and implementation of:

  • Mixed signal ADC/DAC and FPGA based Circuit Card Assemblies
  • Rugged subsystems based on FPGA, CPU, ADC/DAC and microwave modules
  • High performance signal processing, communications and control algorithms
  • Firmware development
  • Unit level System Engineering, Architecture of complex multi-board units

In this role you will develop better, cheaper products and get them to market rapidly. The challenge is to develop robust designs, and to demonstrate that they will function reliably in harsh environments over a lifetime of use through a rigorous regime of functional and environmental qualification.

Key Responsibilities

You will work as part of a cross-discipline team to deliver a project where you will be given responsibility for your own work, and your own development. The role will include a combination of tasks, dependent on the specific project placement.

There will be opportunities to develop expertise in the design of circuits, FPGAs and subsystems at various stages in the Engineering lifecycle. This will include requirements capture, performance analysis, design, code, verification, validation, integration and qualification. You will gain exposure to other engineering disciplines and business areas.

Role Requirements

Must have obtained or are predicted to obtain a minimum of an upper second class honours degree in a relevant discipline (including Electronics, Physics or a related subject).

You must be able to obtain SC security clearance (if necessary) and have a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK. The role requires access to UK Caveated information; therefore the candidate will require sole or dual UK nationality.

What can I expect from my working environment?

This is an office and laboratory based role, using display screen equipment, You will be working full time hours which can often be in a demanding environment. Working to tight deadlines either on a regular or ad hoc basis may be required. As part of this role you may have the opportunity to travel UK or abroad in some cases you will also be expected to stay overnight as part of this travel.
