The 6 month – 1 year Industrial Placement Graduate Programme
We have created a programme across our UK sites, that not only increase your technical skills but gives you the opportunity to work on meaningful real life projects alongside experienced engineers and graduates across our business. You will receive coaching and support to achieve your personal goals and work in multidisciplinary teams to gain as much experience across the product lifecycle from your time in industry, as possible. Our ultimate aim is to see you through your undergrad years and hopefully offer you a place on our 2 year Graduate Development programme at an appropriate time.

Industrial Placement Hardware Engineer Job Description
The Leonardo Luton site is home to the Electronics Warfare (EW) and Air-Systems UK (ASUK) Lines of Business, both part of the Airborne and Space Systems Division. The Division develops and produces a wide range of products and solutions for both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms.
An Industrial Placement Student is needed to join the Electronic Engineering Function to work alongside some of the most talented people in the UK. You will support the development world leading technologies across multiple domains including Avionics, Electronic Warfare and Unmanned Systems.
This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled electronics team at the Luton site. We are experts in the design and implementation of:
- Mixed signal ADC/DAC and FPGA based Circuit Card Assemblies
- Rugged subsystems based on FPGA, CPU, ADC/DAC and microwave modules
- High performance signal processing, communications and control algorithms
- Firmware development
- Unit level System Engineering, Architecture of complex multi-board units
In this role you will support the development of better, cheaper products and get them to market rapidly. Opportunities exist to develop expertise in the areas of design of circuits, FPGAs and subsystems at various stages in the Engineering lifecycle. This may include requirements capture, performance analysis, design, code, verification, validation, integration and qualification. You will also gain exposure to other engineering disciplines and business areas.
Working as part of an established team of experienced engineers, you will be responsible for:
- Undertaking packages of work defined by your manager.
- Developing and applying your academic knowledge
- Developing particular skills and awareness of engineering processes
- Working closely with other engineers.
- Working to agreed plans and timescales.
- Use of expertise to solve engineering problems.
Are predicted to obtain a minimum of 2:1 in BSc/BEng/MEng Degree in Electronics, Physics, or a related subject.
You must be able to obtain BPSS and SC security clearance (if necessary) and have a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK. The role requires access to UK Caveated information; therefore the candidate will require sole or dual UK nationality.
You are self-motivated and have an aptitude for problem solving
What can I expect from my working environment?
This is an office and laboratory based role, using display screen equipment, You will be working full time hours which can often be in a demanding environment. As part of this role you may have the opportunity to travel UK or abroad in some cases you will also be expected to stay overnight as part of this travel.
