Asset Management Graduate Programme – Manchester

Join us as an Assets Graduate and be part of the team that plays a vital role in ensuring Manchester Airport’s asset portfolio is effectively maintained, and that infrastructure is developed in line with our ambitious future growth plans to meet key business drivers such as commercial growth, customer service, health & safety and operational efficiency. Working on a broad variety projects across the Airport Asset Development team, you’ll develop the knowledge, skills and experience to fulfil a Junior Asset Manager role at the end of your programme.

The Programme:

Throughout the two-year programme, you will work alongside our Asset Managers on a number of different capital programmes across our portfolio which may include Car Parks, Terminals, Airfield, Landside Operations or IT. From refurbishing and re-designing our taxi-ways to installing extra check-in desks and creating additional parking spaces, the opportunities on offer are broad and varied!

You will work with in partnership with key business stakeholders to transform an initial business requirement into a final product, supporting them to develop the business cases that support their investment needs.

You will look to develop solutions that optimise cost, risk, service/performance and sustainability, determining the best strategies for meeting business outcomes. You will then prioritise schemes across the airport for investment, balancing different departmental needs and working within financial and regulatory constraints.

To support your solution finding, you will spend time analysing data about our passengers and air traffic movements, working closely with our Capacity Planning team to look at a variety of options which could solve a business need. You will also consider data about our asset performance and asset health, to help make informed decisions about future investment and identify opportunities to create improvements.

As the chosen projects progress, you will also work closely with our Engineering Services team who deliver the projects, representing your business stakeholders throughout the process. Upon completion you will then undertake benefit realisation analysis.

During the programme you will also get the opportunity to experience our operation first hand by completing a series of ‘back to the floor’ experiences where you will be able to build on your understanding of how the business works and how Assets fits into the picture.

MAG will also support you with gaining accreditation from Institute of Asset Management during the graduate programme.


To join us as an Assets Graduate you’ll need to bring with you a minimum of a 2:1 in a related degree like Engineering, Planning, or Aviation Management, or in a discipline with a strong numeric background. You’ll also need to be passionate about growing your career in the aviation industry, and some relevant work experience would be advantageous.

You’ll need to have excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail, understanding the importance of process and structure. Stakeholder management is important too, and you will need to be a confident communicator who is able to engage with and influence a broad range of stakeholders.

It's important that you've achieved or are on course for a 2:1, as well as have the right to work in the UK as unfortunately we're unable to support visas. You'll also have to be prepared to work at other UK airports in the group, as well as internationally too.
