Postgraduate study

For many of our postgraduate students, an advanced qualification represents the next step on their professional ladder or an opportunity to advance or change their career; for others it is the passion for a subject or discipline that follows a path of lifelong learning; some wish to become more expert in a niche area, whilst others want to update their knowledge and skills. Within the North-West, we have one of the widest range of postgraduate study options; from short and CPD courses to Masters of Arts/Science and longer term Research and PhD opportunities. In addition to full- and part-time study options, we offer a range of CPD courses – short, highly practical updates of professional knowledge in specialist areas. Our overall pricing is attractive and we can provide flexible options for paying for your study. We have a dedicated Careers and Employability Service, with a focus on developing and enhancing your employability skills and your employment options on completing your postgraduate qualification.

Our research, undertaken by more than 1,400 research staff across 12 research centres, has an international reach and significance. We are proactively involved in developing world-class research that underpins our taught programmes of study at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research in the UK is assessed every 5 years through the Research Excellence Framework, which measures impact at national and international standards. In the 2014 assessment, more than 85% of our research impact was graded as world-leading or internationally excellent, placing the University in the UK’s top 50 for the power of our impact. Our research has helped international governments to reduce carbon emissions from aviation, saved lives by transforming the rapid diagnosis of deadly microbial infections; protected the human rights of people through changes to equality law; revolutionised the approach of every early years professional in the UK; helped thousands of regional businesses to grow and ensured that Manchester remains a cultural powerhouse with poetry, history and art.
