About us

Founded over 50 years ago, Max Fordham LLP is one of the UK’s leading firms of consulting building services and environmental engineers. We work with the world’s leading architects to create beautifully engineered buildings. We care as much about the finish of the buildings as the architects, and have a genuine interest in finding out how we can make buildings work better and use less energy.

We believe in excellence. We value considered thinking and look for curious people who offer ideas, questions and challenges. Balancing personal autonomy and responsibility we encourage our people to bring their unique talents and skills to the work that we do. We attach great importance to the people who join our practice, and the structure of our organisation is designed to give all who work here a voice in key decisions. We are a Limited Liability Partnership, currently with over 220 engineers and administrators in our offices in London, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol.

About the role

Our success is testament to the efforts of our people. To produce the highest quality and most innovative engineering, we need people who can think creatively, and we also need engineers who are able to think practically. So we recruit and train people who rise to that challenge.

We have created an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to join our London office, and learn to become an Engineer who is proficient in computer aided engineering design. Working as part of engineering teams in the delivery of the design, it is vital that you have a keen interest in engineering, 3D Design and Drawing, Modelling, and managing the data and information process of construction. This is a specialist role in Computer Aided Design of buildings and Building Information Management. Ideally, you will have a degree in mechanical, electrical, or production engineering.

In addition to full IT literacy, a good working knowledge of drawing packages such as Rhino, AutoCAD or Sketchup is essential. Knowledge or interest in Autodesk Revit or other BIM software packages would be ideal.

About the person

This role requires a motivated team player who is keen and willing to learn. As such, essential personal attributes for this role include a strong sense of ownership for the work that you do. You must care about the presentation and detail of the design and have a strong desire to achieve technical excellence and completeness.

Good communication skills are vital in this role, as is an ability to build strong relationships with the engineers in the team you will be paired with, and the members of the CAD Group. This will be essential for building and retaining your technical expertise, whilst developing your engineering design capability.

What you can expect

We attach great importance to the people who join us, and our founding values remain true today. We are a Limited Liability Partnership. The structure of our organisation is designed to give all who work with us a voice in key decisions, and all employees are considered for partnership after about four years of continuous employment with us.

3D modelling and drawing will be the main focus for this engineering role, using modern methods, rather than traditional drafting. You will get a chance to work on a wide range of projects run from our offices in London, Edinburgh, Cambridge Manchester and Bristol in and across different sectors, both at home and internationally. You will support our engineers in delivering their projects, and have a strong sense of ownership and commitment to their work.
