Interview Process

2014

"I think it is as hard to get hired at Mayer Brown as it is at any other firm of its league. The competition amongst candidates is high, but if you are genuinely a good candidate, you should get through to interview stage. You first need to send in your online application form and a cover letter. If your application is successful, you get invited to the assessment centre, which includes a written exercise, fact-finding and group exercises, followed by a partner interview."

"I submitted an application form for a vacation scheme and attended one graduate recruitment interview (45 minutes) and an open day at the firm. I attended a three-week vacation scheme and had a one-hour interview at the end of the vacation scheme with two partners."

"The process for a vacation scheme began with a CV and cover letter. I was required to complete an online verbal reasoning test the day before my interview, which formed part of my overall interview score. Whilst on my vacation scheme I did a commercial awareness test, negotiation exercise and final partner interview."

"My vacation scheme interview was competency based and it lasted about 45 minutes. I completed the three-week summer vacation scheme and had a partner interview on the last day for the training contract. This interview was with two partners and it was more focused on commercial awareness and the experience I had on the vacation scheme."

"I was offered the training contract after attending a vacation scheme (40-minute interview and online tests to get on this). At the end of the vacation scheme, there was a written assessment and an interview with two partners."

"There was an interview with Graduate Recruitment for the vacation scheme, which was not too testing. But on the vacation scheme itself, I felt well tested. As well as being given real work that could be judged while sitting in the departments, there was also a challenging written task and an interview with two senior lawyers."

"Process: HR interview, vacation scheme, feedback on vacation scheme, written commercial case study assessment, partner interview. Very friendly HR and partners interviewing. Very relaxed chatty interviews which were actually enjoyable! Questions asked: current commercial issues, legal services act, CV based competency questions."
