"Almost all trainees do pro bono work at the Islington Law Centre and there are also lots of other department specific projects that lawyers get involved in."

"We are frequently asked to get involved in pro bono projects within the firm and/or departments with a league table having been produced. I think there has been a recent push for this. Among trainees, the majority of us do a lot. I attend the Islington Law Centre on Monday nights to give free legal advice to people who don't have the means to pay for it."

"I attend Islington Law Centre monthly, which is great. I also help with writing letters to prisoners with the prisoners advice service. I was involved in a couple of pro bono matters in my first seat, which was great because you got good client exposure and lots of responsibility."
Second year trainee, London
"Our pro bono department is extremely pro-active and energetic. We have a dedicated ex-lawyer in charge and she encourages everyone, whatever level, to get involved. It certainly adds to one's skill set as a trainee. I have been to the Islington Law centre to listen to and give advice to members of the public."
