"As a graduate I do four six-month placements. All have been very different but the best parts included hands-on work with the missile equipment and international travel."
Graduate, Stevenage
"First year on the graduate scheme involved quite varied mechanical design work that allowed me to design multiple parts and see the process from a set of requirements through to hardware delivery. Alongside this I was also able to visit manufacturers and suppliers."
Graduate, Bolton
"As a graduate I am typically given a handful of objectives at the beginning of each placement and these tend to describe the work that I undertake. As an integration and systems validation engineer, my role requires me to prepare for trials and proving activities, which can involve the design of trials. To test hardware and to include the build of test equipment. This is in addition to the production of trials documentation, including test procedures and logistics plans. Furthermore, my role requires my attendance at and conduct of trials both on- and off-site, followed by post-trial analysis and reporting."
Graduate, Bristol
"I have had increasing responsibilities throughout placements and have been assigned challenging tasks throughout."
Graduate, Stevenage
"I have had a lot of varied work with varying degrees of complexity. Being assigned everything from small tasks to large projects means there is always something to keep you interested."
Graduate, Stevenage
"Being on the graduate scheme, I have been on several rotations already working in differing departments. I have worked on requirements, getting an overall understanding of the systems and working on improving the way they are written. As well as compiling some test scripts and working on upcoming technologies, and looking at how we may be able to use some of the existing technology to generate future capabilities, which can be very interesting."

"At work I was leading multiple research and development activities, as well as assisting with missile qualification analysis."
Graduate, Stevenage
"I currently undertake detailed electronic design, and have ownership of my own work package, including the budget. I am also involved in various extra-curricular activities including STEM ambassador, running Nuffield Research Placements, and managing external sub-contractor resources."
Graduate, Stevenage
"I have been given real responsibilities for important tasks, but I am also provided with the support and training needed to help carry these tasks out. My work is varied, but always interesting."
Graduate, Stevenage
"My role involves designing and programming guidance and control systems for missiles."
Graduate, Bristol
"My role as a systems engineer involves managing how the products that the company designs actually work together. This can range from design and interface definition, to requirements management. I have also had opportunities to get involved with trial and testing work."
Graduate, Bristol
"For my experience, I am given a large number of responsibilities managing certain documents, and being given my own tasks to get on with contribute to the project in a real way."
Graduate, Bristol
"Work depends on the department, but my work involved writing reports, collating information from managers, running simulations, involvement in meetings, analysing results using various tools."
Graduate, Stevenage
"My work involves aerodynamic dataset generation, simulations and modelling of trajectories, trials analysis, and occasionally attending wind tunnel tests. The quality of work depends drastically on what project you end up on."
Graduate, Bristol
"My current role is focused on customer interaction and the development of a system model for a major upcoming project. I am currently responsible for managing internal and external assumptions as well as liaising between the different national sides of the project."
