Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates with a curious and driven approach to their work and an ability to think analytically and critically to develop solutions. You will show a genuine interest in the financial service industry and the regulations governing it, as well as be comfortable evaluating and interpreting rules, regulations, and legal documents. It is important that our compliance graduates have a strong ethical code, are able to build and maintain relationships and work effectively as part of a team. You will also have the ability to adapt to new circumstances and be comfortable working with ambiguity, as well as having excellent written and verbal communication skills.
We are looking for candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds and actively recruit from all degree disciplines. It is not necessary to have studied a finance related degree or have relevant work experience, but an interest in financial services is important.
You will possess or be predicted a minimum 2:1 at undergraduate degree from any discipline and have 300 UCAS points or equivalent.
What is the Compliance Graduate Scheme?
M&G Compliance are the team charged with ensuring that M&G acts in compliance with laws and regulations that impact the fund management industry both here and overseas.
Compliance does this by helping the business to understand financial services’ laws and regulations and preparing the business for changes being driven by our regulators. In essence, Compliance helps the business achieve its objectives and reach their end goals.
The Compliance Graduate Scheme will last 18 months, involving a series of rotations in our compliance teams. You will experience a number of rotations over the duration of the programme, where you will gain exposure to a range of business areas. The rotations will see you spending time advising the businesses on the regulatory landscape and ensuring the businesses are acting in accordance with the law on an on-going basis. Towards the end of the scheme we will work with you to find a permanent role and team that best suits your strengths and interests.
What will you do?
You will be involved in a variety of tasks enabling you to develop strong knowledge of the financial services business and the regulatory environment in which we operate. You will benefit from participating in work here you can make a genuine contribution to the team with an opportunity to convey your own views and ideas. The nature of the work will vary dependent on the business area and team that you are placed.
You will experience the following types of work:
- Policy Work
- Product and Regulatory Development
- Document Review
Monitoring – Reassures the business that they are conducting their affairs in compliance with relevant financial services rules and regulations.
Policy Work – Interacts with regulatory and trade bodies to assess impacts of proposed laws and regulations on the business. Also maintains company’s policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current regulation.
Product and Regulatory Development – Helps ensure our funds and business practices are in line with regulation and meet the standards set by regulators.
Advisory – Provides advice to ad-hoc queries regarding distribution, investment permissibility, and changing regulations as they arise from the business.
Document Review – Ensures marketing materials are fair, clear and not misleading to comply with regulatory standards. Creates and maintains legally required product documents.
What training and development opportunities are provided?
Throughout the scheme, you are given comprehensive training and a vast support network; this includes a four-week asset-management introductory programme, a buddy from a previous cohort and a mentor. All graduates complete their induction by obtaining the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and will then have the opportunity to begin supported study towards a further professional qualification, such as the Diploma in Compliance.
Following the initial training programme, your individual training needs will be assessed and you will begin supported study towards further relevant training and qualifications. You will receive regular feedback through rotation appraisals and also a psychometrics review, allowing you to continue to develop throughout the programme. Graduates are also able to make the most of the in-house training opportunities available.
Once off the scheme your development will continue to be supported through the Learning & Talent Development Team.
