"Fantastic. I've been heavily involved with lots of pro bono."

"There is a pro bono scheme (FLAG) run in conjunction with the University of Birmingham, where fee-earners supervise students to provide free legal advice to members of the public. Trainees are able to get involved as members of the FLAG committee and by acting as co-ordinators to manage matters as the point of contact between fee earners and student volunteers."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"Quite a lot of non-legal pro bono eg mentoring and careers events. However, I haven't come across much legal pro bono, though I am aware it does happen ad hoc across the firm. I believe they still run a pro bono group with law students in Birmingham but the similar one in Cambridge seems to have died out."

"The firm helps in local schools and employees are encouraged to attend and assist younger children with reading. Employees with sufficient qualifications have also been encouraged to help with the Norfolk Community Law Service which I would like to participate with once I am eligible. The firm gives each of its employees a "give a day" of holiday which can be used for when the employee is participating in a pro bono/charitable event outside the workplace."

"The Cambridge and Birmingham offices run the Free Legal Advice Group which sees lawyers from the firm and other local firms giving legal advice to those who would otherwise be unable to access it."

"Birmingham FLAG is a well known pro bono scheme run in conjunction with the University of Birmingham. There are also countless fund raising events run throughout the year, such as the Birmingham 10k race which had over 30 runners from our Birmingham office. It's very easy to get involved in all these initiatives."

Each office chooses a local charity to raise money for every year and there is a huge variety of fundraising activities from cake sales and dress downs to external events, for example holding a traditional sports day to raise money."

"This year I have chaired the Birmingham's office pro bono scheme which provides legal advice to the local community in conjunction with the University of Birmingham and No.5 Chambers."

"I was one of the organisers of the firm's annual Charity Challenge, which usually involves around 60 of the firm's employees taking part in some sort of activity weekend. Our challenge was a 'reverse jailbreak' and previous events have included the Coast to Coast and Three Peaks. The event typically raises over £10,000 for charity. In addition I have worked on a pro bono matter for a local client in its defence of a claim made by a third party. I was given responsibility to undertake the majority of the work and I was very pleased that our involvement resulted in the claimant discontinuing its spurious claim."
Second year trainee, Cambridge
"FLAG - free legal advice group (in association with the University of Birmingham). Inspiring Futures - mentoring scheme (in association with Birmingham City University)."
