"Working hours can be vary depending on your department. Some departments will give days in lieu when long hours have been worked or make sure you go home early when you can."

"As a trainee working for associates you don't have to stick around for face-time if you're not busy. People appreciate that there are fluctuations in work, and that means you can sometimes head home at 6:00pm. People are also appreciative of your other commitments outside work - if you have somewhere you need to be, you can usually manage it."

"It depends on workload. If there's lots on, then everyone needs to muck in. But people also understand that if you're quiet and leave at 6:00pm there's nothing wrong with that. I've also been in teams who are happy for me to work from home if I can complete the task away from my desk."

"The working hours vary hugely between departments. However one really positive aspect is that, if you're quiet, you're not expected to sit around until 9:00pm waiting for other people to go home."

"Although they do depend on your department, working hours are relatively flexible and become more so on qualification."
First year trainee, Sheffield
"I did not find the working hours to be flexible for trainees."
Second year trainee, London
"Working hours vary hugely between departments, with some averaging leaving every day at 5:30pm and others averaging leaving at 7:00pm. The firm has implemented a home working pilot but it is not open to trainees."

"The working hours vary depending on departments. The attitude to working hours also varies, but generally they are good, and people are accommodating if you need to leave early on occasion."
Second year trainee, London
"In my experience I have had extremely flexible working hours. I am in control of my own time, and as long as I get the work done to a high standard, it doesn't matter if I leave early."

"Generally hours are very flexible but, again, this varies from department to department. In some departments I've had a very good work/life balance and have missed very few social commitments. In others it's been quite the opposite!"
Second year trainee, London
"The hours vary according to the department and workloads. I have worked some consistently long hours on occasions. Some teams have very long and unrealistic hours, but most are reasonable."
Second year trainee, London
"I've had a mixed bag through my training contract - sometimes leaving at five, sometimes, er, not. Currently I'm doing 8:30-10:00pm most days, but that's because I'm doing an associate workload and am not quite up to speed! The firm is generally flexible about you needing to go early for things, as long as you let your supervisor know, (for example, I had a 5:30pm train booked on a Friday and the managing associate took some work back from me so I could make it!)."
Second year trainee, Sheffield
"There is no attitude that people should be in the office if they don't have any work to do. The hours can vary between departments, but the firm responds to the need to hire more staff where necessary, and the culture for hours is much better compared to other firms."
First year trainee, London
"Compared to City firms, I think our hours are good - but I find the occasional unpredictability a little frustrating. However - this is part and parcel of the job, and not a fault of Nabarro specifically."
First year trainee, Sheffield
"Work hours vary greatly depending on which department you are in. Some departments (such as Corporate) are busier and have longer hours than others by the nature of the work. Other departments (such as Property) involve long hours for trainees and NQs because of the sheer volume of work."
