"Mentors do not have to be managers, there are plenty of people who I have taken advice from and seek opinions of with projects and career development. Allocated senior mentors can be harder to 'pin down' due to the nature of their role, and the employee plays a big part in keeping these lines of communication open (something I should have done better)."
