Health Informatics Graduate Development Scheme
Tell me more.
The NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme is nothing less than a life defining experience. Where else can you have a positive impact on the lives of 53 million people, including your own? While helping to transform and shape our services around ever-evolving patient needs, you’ll experience a career awash with outstanding development opportunities and exposure to leadership strategies delivered by NHS experts, international healthcare providers and private sector organisations.
But make no mistake. This is no easy ride. To succeed it will take everything you’ve got. Driving up standards, delivering deeper value for money and continuing the progress to become a healthier nation will require total focus, unwavering commitment, and a whole lot of heart. But for every challenge you’ll face, there’ll be twice as many rewards waiting for you.
This high profile, fast-track graduate development scheme will enable you to become a future leader, improving people's health and their experience of the NHS. With an offer like that, it’s no wonder why we are 8th in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers and have been in their Top Ten Employers since 2003.
Without informatics the NHS would grind to a halt. The NHS depends on information to do its vital work and it is through informatics that this information is obtained and shared. Health Informatics explores how information technology can help the NHS address challenges to improve efficiency and patient care. Taking a creative approach, you’ll get the most from data, information, knowledge and technology to support exciting changes.
Not only will you deal with technology such as electronic patient records and decision support systems, but you’ll learn about the organisational, ethical and legal issues involved in managing health information - so you certainly don’t need to be an IT expert to be a success!
Opportunities are diverse and far-reaching: Informatics professionals are represented at every level of NHS organisations.
With a proven blend of work placements and specialist training, your learning experience will be second-to-none.
Over two years, your professional learning will include a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Informatics and a Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Leadership, both from renowned and respected education providers. At the same time, you’ll develop on the job, through a series of challenging placements. Throughout, you’ll enjoy support and guidance from a dedicated mentor and some of the best minds in the NHS.
Unique touches set the scheme apart. Your induction includes 20 days in which you set the agenda, experiencing NHS life on the frontline. Want to ride with an ambulance crew or observe an autopsy? You can. Later, you will arrange a 2 month ‘flexi-placement’ which will take you outside the NHS - it’s about you acquiring new perspectives to bring back to help the NHS.
Who can apply?
We’re looking for high-calibre ambitious people who are keen to help deliver positive transformational change in a complex organisation.
The challenge of taking on diverse placements in a full-time role, while undertaking training and study, means that self-motivation and superb organisational skills are vital. We expect you to be tenacious and resilient, with passion and confidence. Our nationwide remit means you should be ready to make a difference anywhere in England.
You don’t need any previous relevant work experience but you will need:
- To believe in the principles and values that binds together the communities and people the NHS serves and the staff who work for it
- The potential to become an outstanding leader
- A commitment to improving people's health and their experience of the NHS
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop professional networks
- Strong analytical capabilities, including the ability to solve problems
- Flexibility, creativity and innovation
- A minimum 2:2 degree in any discipline (secured or expected)
If you’ve got the drive, you’ll secure an amazing future. Recent graduates have already progressed to senior posts within the NHS including Head of Department and Associate Director.
