"There is training on everything at the firm. If there is something you think you need training in, you should request it."

"You could spend seven hours a day in training if you signed up for everything: the training here is very impressive."
Second year trainee, London
"Skills I have developed in training include: drafting, time management, people management, technical and transaction management skills."
Second year trainee, London
"There is a lot of training here which is, on the whole, very helpful."

"While I think that some departments will ensure that you take as much away from training as possible, I feel that others see you as a resource to use only to do the basic ground work. The training will depend very much on the seat and the people you end up with."
Second year trainee, London
"We have a range of lunchtime and after-work training sessions on any given area of law."

"I found the training to be comprehensive at Norton Rose Fulbright. You start the training contract with two weeks of skills training, as well as legal workshops and Professional Skills Course training. Each department runs formal and informal training sessions on its particular practice area/industry."

"Obligatory Continuing Professional Development training is well organised. Departments also regularly offer team-specific training, which I have found particularly engaging and targeted towards trainees well. IT training is also widely available and it is advertised well."

"Norton Rose Fulbright has an extensive training programme. It was very helpful at the start of my training contract to be trained on a number of legal and soft skills."
First year trainee, London
"Extensive training. Always sessions to attend on both legal and non legal. Networking is very well taught (and a very useful skill to learn)."
First year trainee, London
"There is a detailed and strict training programme which applies throughout the training contract. However, I found I learned most of the legal and non-legal skills through direct experience at work rather than in formal training."
Second year trainee, London
"The 2 1/2 week induction programme is a little laboured but generally training is very well structured and delivered."
Second year trainee, London
"There is always training available at trainee level and beyond: departmental, team, firm, business groups, industry sector specific and client training. There is a calendar on our intranet that lists legal and non-legal and soft skills training that is very useful."
Second year trainee, London
"Formal training is very extensive and fulfilling. There are training sessions all the time, be they departmental or firm-wide. Every seat involves a compulsory schedule of core-training that refreshes what you learnt at law school - very helpful! Other sessions revolve around commercial know-how, skills such as research and minuting. There are an abundance of optional training sessions that can be signed up for if you want."
First year trainee, London
"Incredibly good commercial training. Also covered all aspects of training and many role play activities to simulate days at your desk, how to order your time/prioritise tasks/interact with partners/associates/clients/secretaries. Felt very prepared for my first day in the office."

Second year trainee, London
"Extensive legal training given by qualified NR lawyers. Other skills training available to those who require it."
Second year trainee, London
"There are constantly department-wide, team specific and pro bono training events. It is also great to attend client seminars and distinguished speaker talks."
First year trainee, London
"Ongoing training at the beginning of each seat and an initial two weeks on joining for IT, PSC, drafting, writing, etc. Additionally, there is an advocacy course that really adds to the training and is not undertaken by all firms."
First year trainee, London
"Excellent. There is a considerable amount of training throughout the training contract. This is both department specific and for trainees in general."
