Job Description

nucleargraduates is a ground-breaking graduate development scheme created by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and sponsored by Sellafield Ltd, Rolls-Royce, Magnox, the Environment Agency, International Nuclear Services, LLW Repository, Radioactive Waste Management Limited and the Office for Nuclear Regulation. The scheme is also involved with more than 20 other industry stakeholders.

This two year programme consists of three secondments; you can expect to find yourself working across the industry on-site, with the private sector supply chain, with Government and regulatory authorities. Graduates may also have the possibility of going on an international secondment. Structured training is provided to allow you to develop both your technical and behavioural skills building personal and professional development. The nucleargraduates programme is fully backed with professional support to move you towards recognised qualifications supported by a dedicated mentor.

On top of this graduates joining the programme spend 10% of their time dedicated to the Footprints CSR programme – there will be an opportunity to work with local schools, groups and businesses to give something back to the communities in which our sites are based.

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) independently regulates nuclear safety and security at 37 nuclear licensed sites across the UK. They are also responsible for the regulation of transport and the safeguarding of nuclear and radioactive materials with a duty is to ensure that the nuclear industry controls its hazards effectively, has a culture of continuous improvement and maintains high standards.

The nuclear industry is undergoing rapid change and ONR’s role as a regulator is vital in ensuring new nuclear facilities are designed, built and operated to the highest standards, and in a manner that improves public confidence without compromising safety or security. Also overseeing the decommissioning of nuclear sites and cooperating with international regulators their work is critical to the protection of society at large.

The Office of Nuclear Regulation is looking to sponsor graduates through the nucleargraduates programme. Upon completion of the two year programme those chosen will start employment with the Office for Nuclear Regulation to continue their career and professional development in order to become a Nuclear Safety Inspector.

Minimum Eligibility Requirement

Candidates must have an attained or expected result of 2.1  or above at Masters level in Mechanical Engineering.

Travel Details

Applicants must be willing and able to move around the UK and overseas to complete secondments and training whilst on the nucleargraduates programme. Extensive travelling is required with relocation across the UK essential in order to complete secondments.

Successful applicants will then be invited to complete online numerical and verbal test sand a video interview followed by a two-day assessment centre that will assess candidates across a range of competencies. After the selection process has been completed successful candidates will be made a formal offer on to the nucleargraduates programme.
