Our CR programme is designed to give all our people the opportunity to make a positive difference in our community by sharing their knowledge, skills and passion. The focus is on education, the environment and local needs and in one way or another all our trainees are involved. CR projects range from serving breakfast and volunteering at the Whitechapel Mission (a homeless centre in east London) to bee keeping in the award winning Olswang garden, to tutoring a GCSE or A Level student. Our trainees are also involved in giving pro bono legal advice to a wide range of charities and organisations including the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Help for Heroes, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Elephant Family and The Lullaby Trust.
Diversity & Inclusion
At Olswang we firmly believe in the business and moral case for a more diverse workforce but we also believe that only a truly inclusive environment will retain and engage that workforce. Everything we do is about improving our diversity in a sustainable way.
We have a range of activities focusing on a number of aspects of diversity. For women our Lean In Circles are small peer groups who discuss challenges and support each other to create personal and cultural change and we provide additional help for specific periods such as the maternity transition. We want to attract more Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic graduates to the firm and partner with a number of external organisations to help us to achieve this. We also have a number of employee lead networks including The Family Network and the Olswang Pride and Equality Network for our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff.
While increasing our diversity is important we know that, to keep and engage diverse talent for the long term, we need to create an inclusive environment where people can thrive and give the best of themselves to their career with us. With this in mind much of our work focusses on ensuring we have an underlying inclusive environment. We are creating a progressive culture around flexible working and have an Inclusive Leadership module in our Associate Development Programme as well as unconscious bias training for all.
