"Olswang is excellent at cross-department teams and hosts monthly firm-wide socials."
First year trainee, London
"The Olswang culture is what we are known for and it lives up to its reputation. In a law firm there is obviously a hierarchy, but by no means is this strict and by no means are partners scary. Everyone is approachable and will answer questions. Doors are always open and people always smile and ask you how you are and what you are doing at the weekend, however senior they are and however junior you are. Socialising is good at trainee level, with a pub round the corner where you will find everyone every Friday night and a few organised events throughout the year. There are also departmental events and trips."
Second year trainee, London
"There is hardly any hierarchy, no matter who the person is, their door is always open. Partners are quick to provide praise and recognition and will always thank you for your work. Socialising is dependent on hours and workload but most departments make the effort to go out for departmental drinks. The firm has end of month drinks which are always fun!"

"I have found the firm and the people who work here to be very open, approachable and fun. It seems to be populated by a lot of genuinely nice people."
First year trainee, London
"I would say that it can be hierarchical here, though this is compared to my non-law firm workplace experiences. Getting plenty of work direct from partners gives good insight though. Friendly staff and very collaborative trainees. Hours fluctuate depending on any urgent work and the culture of the client."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is not very hierarchical in terms of the associates and trainees, though there is a definite difference between the Partners and everybody else. Co-operation and teamwork work very well, friend groups socialise but there is no pressure to go out if you don't want to."
First year trainee, London
"In terms of hours, the culture is faultless. Work/life balance is encouraged, hours are not ridiculous, partners and seniors are all very friendly and approachable. Socialising among colleagues almost never takes place spontaneously, but the organised events are well attended and people participate fully!"
First year trainee, London
"No hierarchy particularly - partners are extremely approachable and there isn't really such thing as a stupid question. I haven't found the firm to be massively sociable as colleagues seem to prioritise family life outside of work, which is quite refreshing I suppose! Everyone seems to get on well though and genuinely takes an interest in you as a person and not just as a workforce."

"The firm is not overly hierarchical, which is good."
Second year trainee, London
"The culture at Olswang is like no other. You talk to partners as you would to a friend, the social events are incredible."
First year trainee, London
"There is usually an open, non-hierarchical feel within the office, with colleagues generally open and friendly. In terms of socialising, there is a view that people have their own lives out of work, so there is not much pressure to go to work drinks, etc. However, when the firm does put on events (such as the Christmas Party), no expense is spared. I also found the social events for future trainees to be an invaluable way of mixing with those already at the firm."
First year trainee, Reading
"The firm has a very flat hierarchy. Partners are all very approachable and trainees can work with them comfortably. There is a team attitude, with everyone working together to get the job done. Social elements vary depending on department but generally it's a very friendly firm. The trainees tend to lunch in quite big groups together and often have trainee socials or their own organised events to enjoy. The firm holds drinks at the end of every month for all members of staff to attend."
First year trainee, London
"Olswang has a meritocratic structure. Everyone is very approachable and open. End of month drinks are always pretty fun and a good opportunity to socialise with other trainees and colleagues generally."
First year trainee, London
"Friendly and open culture, although this is not always reflected in the social life of the firm which is not as busy as you might expect. Non-hierarchical and meritocratic culture means you get out what you put in. Genuine 'open-door' policy. Challenged as much as you want to be."
First year trainee, London
"Work/life balance is good, you stay if you have work and you leave at 5:30pm if you don't. People don't make judgements about how late you stay and if you do end up working a weekend or lots of late nights people appreciate and acknowledge it and don't take it for granted. The hierarchy is not pronounced, trainees are very comfortable around partners."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is very collegiate and everyone is very open and approachable. You are encouraged to learn as much as possible. Socialising occurs pretty regularly and informally, and cuts right across the firm from partners to trainees. The only negative comment would be that there is sometimes not a great deal of trainee socialising as a distinct group."

"On the whole office hours are good (obviously there have been a couple of exceptions). Excellent social - the O-lympics, The O Factor, Olswang's Got Talent..."
First year trainee, London
"Excellent culture in the office. A meritocratic firm where you can talk to and ask questions of everyone. Socialising between trainees and within departments out of hours is lacking."
Second year trainee, London
"There is a strong culture at the firm of openness and commerciality. Trainee socialising is not perhaps as strong as at other firms - departments are not that big so there is limited time to get to know each other."
