Philips’ well known and trusted brand name stood out to me when looking for graduate roles on Target Jobs. I knew I wanted to work internationally in the future so the global reach that comes with a role at Philips really appealed to me.
The application process was thorough, encompassing an assessment form, online tests and a skype interview alongside the assessment centre itself. This however gave us applicants plenty of opportunities to really show off our skill sets.
My tailored scheme has been split into two year-long rotations within the health systems side of the business. My first sales rotation saw me move up to Leeds along with a company car to undertake an Account Manager role within North. Over the year I managed my own time and diary in order to build up relationships with customers and contribute to the sales number within the district. Although the move itself was challenging, Philips was very supportive with the relocation.
Since then I have moved into my role in marketing within our UK headquarters. I’m currently involved in a range of projects that require teaming up in regular meetings to ensure we are activating content and events in line with our strategy and seeing projects executed from start to finish.
The “agile” working environment operating at Philips also gives you the flexibility to work in a way that suits you and your team. Hot desks, working from home and flexible hours not only promote socialising between teams but also encourage productivity and creativity.
As cliché as it sounds, it is the people and culture that really make the difference at Philips. There is a great graduate/intern community who not only have scheduled graduate-specific workshops but also socialise regularly outside of work. Similarly, all teams I have worked in have valued the social aspect of work and there is often an effort made for regular workshops alongside the annual kick-off event.
Working at Philips has exceeded all expectations and has given me a lot more responsibility than I ever expected d to have in my first role out of university. I can definitely recommend the Philips Graduate Scheme to anyone ready to take ownership of their career within a company driven to make a difference globally.
