RBS

Internal Audit Graduate Scheme

Our purpose is to keep the bank and our customers safe by helping our colleagues put the right controls in place. We’re independent of the business, we call out risks by asking tough questions and we challenge everything.

With keen regulator interest and evolving customer needs, it’s a challenging time in the financial services industry. And you’ll play a key role in providing assurance that RBS has an effective control environment in place to meet these challenges.

Join our graduate scheme, and you can help us achieve this goal. Not only will you work with a dynamic and high performing team with access to all areas of the bank, you’ll have the opportunity to achieve a Chartered Accountancy qualification. Share in our determination, passion and drive, and we’ll help you to develop your skills to fulfil your potential.

What you can expect

Take your first step into a graduate role in Internal Audit, and we’ll invest in you and help you to shape a rewarding career. You’ll enjoy working in a challenging area, and we’ll support you every step of the way as you stretch your analytical talents and build a keen understanding of risk management and controls.

You’ll work side by side with experienced auditors on completing audit engagements, and get to know senior people in the business areas you’re auditing. You’ll contribute to every stage of the audit life cycle on a day to day basis. This will involve shaping audit objectives, understanding processes, finding risks, testing controls and contributing to final reports on your findings. The focus and scope of your work will change with each new task, helping to broaden your experience as you work with our diverse team.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll need analytical skills, along with the ability to prioritise effectively, quickly establishing what’s important. You’ll be adept at communicating - verbally and in writing - in a clear and concise way, and be comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders. You’ll also need to balance your day to day audit work, with studying to achieve your professional qualification.

Whatever your degree discipline, we ask all our graduates to have at least a 2:1. You don’t need any specific UCAS points or experience.

Development and support

Your individual learning will be supported by our experienced auditors. On top of this, you’ll benefit from dedicated managerial guidance throughout our programme, as well as counsellor support during your qualification.
You’ll also have the opportunity to develop soft skills through the RBS Graduate Learning Journey programme. In the first stage of your career, you’ll learn about our business and build the foundations to help you reach your potential.

You’ll work with an Audit team in London, Edinburgh or Belfast, where you’ll specialise in a specific area. This could be Personal & Business Banking, Commercial & Private Banking, Corporate & Institutional Banking, Risk, Finance or Conduct Risk.

Your practical, on the job experience will be supported by your professional qualification, either ICAEW (The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales), or ICAS (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland).

During your three years, you’ll gain a range of skills, both technical and non-technical, which will pave the way for your success in audit or any future career path that you may choose. A career in Internal Audit provides you with unique access across the business and offers an experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

Future Career Path

At the end of your graduate programme, you’ll emerge as a fully qualified Senior Auditor and you’ll have the chance to steer your own career path. Our graduate alumni have taken Audit Manager and Senior Auditor roles, where they are making a difference every day to keep our customers and the bank safe.

By leveraging your drive, determination and intellectual curiosity, you can help us achieve our ambition of being an excellent Audit function.
