8.2 / 10

(based on 17 ratings in 2016)

2016

"There's an extensive induction course at the beginning of the training contract covering various legal skills like drafting and research as well as ethics and the code of conduct. There are frequent lunchtime seminars covering legal updates."

"Good soft skills training such as public speaking and negotiation."
Second year trainee, London
"Most formal training takes place in the first two weeks of the training contract. After that, most departments offer specific training to the trainees in their departments at the beginning of each seat rotation. I found the group-specific training sessions very helpful."
Second year trainee, London
"There is a well-structured training programme that all trainees undertake as well as further training organised by departments. Trainees are encouraged to attend as many training sessions as possible (external and internal) and not having a chargeable hours bonus means this is more than feasible."
Second year trainee, London
"The training programme is wide and varied. It includes soft skills such as presentation and voice coaching as well as more precise skills such as legal drafting and department-specific knowledge training. Although these are often open to the whole firm, trainees are specifically invited and often encouraged to attend."
Second year trainee, Bristol
"The training programme is good. It's split between non-legal skills (public speaking etc) and legal training in departments."
Second year trainee, London
"As a trainee, there's a huge amount of training, particularly at the start of your training contract but also as you move through. When you start a new seat there's often a lot of training in that area, which is really helpful. As a firm, there's also a lot of training generally so departments will meet for a lunchtime talk or for a presentation every month or so. These are usually based around what's happening in the department and any updates to the law to be aware of."

"The training at the firm has developed my negotiation and presentation skills."
First year trainee, London
"I have found the training to be good here, with a variety of topics: a range of legal updates from counsel, market training sessions from consultants in the industry, general legal training (case law and know how and technical legal skills e.g. research, drafting and firm financial management)."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm offers a number of training programmes to sign up to. Sometimes trainees will be invited to more exclusive workshops aimed at associates when there is a last minute drop out, for example, I got to partake in a workshop about interviewing witnesses."
First year trainee, London
"I think that RPC has an excellent training programme, with a wide variety of formal and informal sessions. The feedback on completed work is also generally very good."
Second year trainee, London
"Formal training seems fairly standard, although there are optional extras available on request."
First year trainee, London
"The training is very well organised here, with a particular focus on developing soft skills, which is welcome."
First year trainee, London
"I have been really impressed with the training programme: there are lots of skills workshops as well as specialist insurance training."
First year trainee, London
"My drafting of correspondence has hugely improved since starting my training contract, and I am also developing my ability to formulate the strategy for a case. I have done mostly litigation so far, and my knowledge of the procedural aspects of litigation has really developed. I have become more confident since starting my training contract, and my organisation and pro activity have also improved."
First year trainee, London
"I thought that the training programme was very structured, and that I was supported and developed along the way."

"RPC offers lots of internal training both firm wide and within groups. There is a focus on individual development - aided by 'CareerBuilder'. We also get lots of support from the Learning and Development Team."
Second year trainee, London
"There is a good variety of in-house sector and skill training. The quality of these sessions has been variable, however."
First year trainee, Bristol
"There are many professional skills courses and plenty of legal updates. I am better at learning things practically so prefer to acquire skills on-the-job than in training sessions."
First year trainee, London
"RPC offers excellent training sessions both internally and externally."
First year trainee, London
"The training programme is generally split into those specific to the practice group of each rotation and also trainee specific programmes. Practice group trainings may have internal or external facilitators. These generally cover topical issues or legal updates. Trainee specific trainings include a combination of compulsory and optional trainings (if you feel that there are areas that need development) I was able to pick up on soft skills such as client management. Legal skills that I have been able to develop include drafting, case management and research skills."
