RSM

What do you do?

I’m a tax assistant. A typical day can involve preparing tax computations for companies, as well as corresponding with colleagues from other departments and clients. This could include advising clients of how much tax to pay, or discussing any further information I may need in order to prepare the tax computation.

What do you like about RSM?

The supportive working culture at RSM and the people I work with are definitely positive points. Being trusted with responsibility, even early on in my career, as well as the opportunities to learn on the job and make good progression towards my career goals are also satisfying.

Why did you choose to work for RSM?

I really enjoyed doing a week’s work experience in the Leeds office during the summer of my last year at university. I found the week very helpful. I gained an insight into what a job at RSM would entail and decided that I wanted to become part of the team. I then applied for and secured a place on the graduate programme during my final year at university.

What are  your long-term goals?

Having recently successfully completed my Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) exams I will soon be going on to study for the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification. I hope to pass these exams in the next couple of years and then I would hope to progress within RSM, achieving even higher levels of responsibility.

What are your top tips for success?

You need a can-do attitude with a willingness to get involved when you work at RSM and you need to be able to work in a team as well as independently. Studying in your own time whilst working can be a challenge, but very rewarding once completed
