Digital Marketing Executive

Placement Objectives

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing a digital marketing strategy to establish brand awareness, whilst conducting market research to increase visitor numbers to the distillery.

Role Description

The successful candidate will adopt a strategic approach through targeted digital marketing, as well as undertaking research into key markets.

Specific tasks of the placement will include:

  • Develop and implement a three-year digital marketing strategy. 
  • Implement Google Analytics or equivalent, and then establish and monitor KPIs to track the benefits of all online marketing campaigns. 
  • Generate media content for the social media channels.
  • Coordinate and undertake targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Explore new ways to enhance the visitor experience to the distillery.
  • Establish relationships with Visit Scotland and local organisations, working collaboratively to increase visitor numbers to the distillery.
  • Undertake detailed research into key tourist markets, detailing key findings in a report.
  • Create a handover document.

This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.


Minimum HNC, preferably related to Marketing. Other subjects accepted provided the candidate has the required skills. 

Skills / Experience

Essential Skills

1.     Good working knowledge of marketing, including digital marketing and its principles.

2.     An understanding of digital analytics.

3.     Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

4.     Attention to detail.

5.     Proactive and an excellent team player, but able to work on own initiative.

6.     Good level of IT literacy.

7.     Organisational skills and the ability to multi-task.

8.     Commitment to project completion. 

Desirable Skills

1.     Experience of undertaking distillery tours or working in a visitor centre environment.

2.     Previous project experience.

3.     Knowledge of the Scottish tourist industry, particularly the Scottish whisky sector.
