Placement summary

Glenrath Farms Ltd is a family owned business, situated in the Scottish Borders and only a short drive to Edinburgh City Centre. We are looking for a talented graduate with a background and interest in Occupational Health and Safety/Environmental Health who is keen to build their career within our agri food business. You will be delivering a key project within our company, whilst developing your knowledge, experience and skills to become a future QHSE Manager. This is a 12 month placement initially with a view to a possible permanent position at the end of the placement.

Project Description

Our agri food enterprise has continued to grow and is now one of the UK's leading egg production and marketing companies, producing over 1.5 million eggs a day for sale to the supermarket multiples.

This project is focused around the development of our existing HSE Management system and will be done in compliance with the internationally recognised ISO 45001 Standard and where possible identifying the linkage and eliminating overlap with our internal quality and environmental management systems. 

During the project, you will be involved in many HSE activities and will be adding value from day one. Specifically, you will identify ways of improving our H&S Management system in compliance to the ISO 45001 Occupational H&S Management Standard. You will also provide support to the management team with Risk Assessments, Auditing, Investigating Incidents and dealing with relevant external bodies are key components of the placement.

Placement Objectives

The main aim of this project is to implement the accepted management systems and practices that are required to achieve the internationally recognised ISO 45001 Standard, whilst developing your skills to be a competent and confident manager.

Achieving a recognised international standard will be a benefit to the company as it operates in a demanding supply chain that requires transparency.

Role Description

You will develop the company’s current HSE Management system with the aim of achieving the internationally recognised ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Standard. Assist our management team to review all Risk Assessments, carry out internal audits. Implement an improvement plan as identified within the risk assessments and internal audits whilst developing your skills with relevant external bodies.

The project is key in maintaining best available practice, legal requirement and compliance with HSE , ACOPS and HSE Guidance


You will have a qualification in a relevant Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental Health Management subject.
