Severn Trent believes in empowering its graduates and apprentices to learn and grow; you are trusted and therefore given responsibilities from early on in your journey, which is quite motivating. We have a fantastic workplace culture and a strong support network in both programmes which is so important to help one become more confident in what they do. The people are great, there’s a friendly ‘can-do’ atmosphere and we are all very passionate about we do and take a lot of pride in keeping our customers safe, round the clock. I couldn’t recommend Severn Trent to graduates enough.

I’ve recently moved placements into our Strategy & Regulation team to work as the Differentiators Lead on the Price Review’19 Programme. As part of this, I’m initially creating a competitor landscape. This involves research and analysis of their financial data and published content to understand how they are applying market mechanisms to various elements of the water and waste value chains to create more revenue streams.  Additionally, I’ve assured inputs into OFWAT’s tables for PR’19 Sludge Regulatory Capital Value.  This role is significantly different to my previous placement wherein I was project managing to deliver in-year budgetary savings for our business unit. The focus in my previous role was in the present and now, whereas, the focus here is on the future and what can be. That requires a completely different skill set and it’s great to have the opportunity to develop two contrasting skills through the graduate programme.

The highlights of my time at Severn Trent Water so far are meeting our Chief Executive Liv Garfield during the induction– she is aspirational!  Plus site visits organised by our lovely grad support team as you come to fully appreciate the critical work we do and of course, Back Office Transformation - I gained Lean qualification and led two project work-streams which are currently delivering savings in excess of target benefits.
