"The firm has many socials, the work hours aren't bad. People understand if on any day you need to get away early. People are apologetic about you working late."
Second year trainee, London
"Very sociable firm, both among peers and across departments. There is some hierarchy, which is inherent in any law firm. Spontaneous socialising is more often done within peer groups. Teamwork is valued strongly."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm has a great culture. People are really supportive and there are a lot of fun groups and activities that you can get involved in."
First year trainee, London
"The firm has a fantastic culture. It is a very supportive environment. There is obviously a hierarchy, but I feel very much at ease talking to partners or senior associates and am treated as an equal. The trainee intake is very close socially, while working well together professionally."

"Without any real exception, I enjoy working with my colleagues and the culture at the firm. We are not expected to stay late for the sake of it. When we do work late, partners and associates are genuinely appreciative. There is also a mentoring culture and a lot of emphasis is placed on helping trainees to develop and grow. There could be more social events at firm level, although at departmental level there tend to be fairly regular social events."

"The culture at Simmons is one of its strongest selling points, for a large City firm it is unusually collaborative, friendly and approachable. The people you work with are just generally really great, and there is a strong culture of not being too rigid or hierarchical in the way people interact. Accepting that everyone has their own lives and work is a part of that, but sometimes not the most important part, is a very key part of the culture."

"The trainee group is tightly knit, and there is usually someone up for a beer. At work drinks there isn't much of a hierarchy."
First year trainee, London
"There is a very strong team spirit in the firm, minimal face-time and lots organised outside of business hours to socialise."

"It can be hierarchical and there are some 'old school' partners but generally I have found it very friendly and most people are very approachable. I have made very good friends and we often congregate in the pub on a Friday."
Second year trainee, London
"In my current seat, everyone is extremely friendly. Even though there can be some late nights, at least your colleagues are people you don't mind staying late with! There's also fairly frequent socialising, with drinks every month or so and Friday cake and tea fortnightly. As a trainee I've managed to work with several different partners and associates as well as across different practice groups."

"The firm is very sociable in my experience. There is a clear hierarchy which can be quite rigid at times but you still always feel like you can talk to partners."
First year trainee, London
"After hours there is an atmosphere of camaraderie. It is unlikely that senior team members will duck out early when the trainees are still in the office working. Weekend working (rare but still too frequent) normally means some decent food. Work socials are fun, but not overbearingly often/compulsory."
First year trainee, London
"Colleagues here are friendly, approachable. I have found that some departments more hierarchical than others and some are also more sociable than others."
First year trainee, London
"The culture is professional but supportive and friendly. As a trainee, there is no one I wouldn't feel comfortable talking to (even the very senior partners). The hierarchical nature differs between departments but generally partners, associates and trainees work very closely and value the others contributions. There is also a very social atmosphere which means Simmons has a lot of sports clubs and networks, (as well as general after-work socialising)."

"The firm is very sociable. Some of the departments have a very active social life with each other outside the firm as well. Most partners are very approachable and interested in the training of the trainees in their departments. I have been on a departmental ski trip during which office hierarchy was left behind in London."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is sometimes hierarchical, but there is a supportive working environment and a very sociable trainee intake."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm's hierarchy is traditional, like all law firms. However, the majority of partners are approachable and go out of their way to be friendly, although they are usually very busy. The culture is not one where long hours are expected for the sake of it and the firm arranges lots of activities, sports and events for employees to take part in."
First year trainee, London
"There are social activities organised quite regularly to welcome new joiners (including trainees) to the department, monthly department socials and quarterly firm socials. There is a recent big push on everyone giving feedback to each other in an effort to make the work more progressive and challenging but it also should be good at making people communicate better within the firm. There is some legacy hierarchy but a lot of promising young lawyers that are very approachable and will be a welcome part of the partnership in the future."
First year trainee, London
"The culture is collaborative, friendly and supportive. Trainees share an office with a senior associate or a partner which gives valuable insight into the running of the business. In the departments I have been in there has been a ski trip, drinks trolleys every fortnight and the option to play sports with clients and other firms."
Second year trainee, London
"Very good bunch of trainees who are all sociable. Associates and senior associates are also very welcoming and partners are (generally) approachable. Strong culture."
