"The firm is taking very positive steps towards increasing diversity at all levels. Active encouragement of diversity is communicated from the senior partner down."

"Our LGBT diversity is very strong."

"The firm seems to be well respected for diversity."
First year trainee, London
"This is generally positive, although I think there is still more to do, particularly on gender representation. There is still a significant gap between the number of female trainees and female partners. I think the firm could also do more with diversity in terms of background."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is very committed to diversity. It has lots of groups and societies and events are regularly held to promote various aspects of work diversity."
Second year trainee, London
"Simmons is a Stonewall star performer and consistently ranks highly in LGBT diversity statistics. Across the firm, there is a very strong ethos that it doesn't matter who you are. The only thing that matters is how good you are at your job."

"There are women's clubs and LGBT clubs that are recognised by Stonewall."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is generally strong on diversity, particularly at the junior level. There is a lack of senior female staff however."
First year trainee, London
"LGBT and straight allies networks are particularly active and flexible working (especially for those with children) is encouraged. We have several corporate social responsibility initiatives with local schools to increase social mobility. More female partners would be preferable but it's being worked on and is improving."

"I am heavily involved in the firm's LGBT initiatives, and am encouraged to participate in internal and external events."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm is committed to diversity. We have networks that actively organise events and initiatives."
Second year trainee, London
"Good on diversity, with a top rank in Stonewall."
First year trainee, London
"Very good – always highly ranked in Stonewall. A strong 'No.1 Club' women's network and other societies."
Second year trainee, London
"Varies from department to department. Active with regards to LGBT and Christian networks. Not so much with the other religious networks. Great women's network."
First year trainee, London
"Very strong compared to other firms on diversity regarding women etc. Often ranked as a top employer for such things."
First year trainee, London
"We have a strong LGBT network (and a straight allies network) and women's network with frequent internal and client events. Trainees are encouraged to get involved with these networks and help to plan and facilitate several of these events, which is ideal for boosting your internal/external networks. The women's network, in particular, has a trainee committee that meets regularly. I would say my trainee intake is quite diverse (in terms of LGBT, ethnicity, nationality, state/private school). Maternity leave seems generous, and in my experience departments are very supportive of the parent fee-earners. The firm also promotes flexible working (including working shorter weeks or working from home), but this may not work for more client-facing departments."

2015

"Simmons is very committed to diversity, there are loads of different networks in the firm, the firm is consistently ranked as one of the best firms for LGBT issues."
First year trainee, London
"There is a Women's Network and a LGBT Network (amongst others). There's less focus on ethnic minorities but as a minority myself I don't feel out of place and I've definitely noticed that my intake is quite diverse in terms of ethnicity and nationality."
First year trainee, London
"Simmons has a very active LGBT community plus firm has a straight allies network for non-LGBT employees who want to show support."
First year trainee, London
"Simmons is very committed to diversity with respect to women. They have many initiatives open to men and women (such as flexible working arrangements with no stigma) that assist people with other commitments. Further, the maternity leave policy is incredible and really shows a commitment to supporting family life."
Second year trainee, London

2014

"The Senior Partner, Colin Passmore, is very committed to diversity and as such that commitment filters through. In my intake there is a 50/50 split as to male and female and a fair proportion of ethnic minorities. The firm also commits to work experience for students from diverse backgrounds at a school age to try and reduce barriers to the legal profession - Simmons works very hard in relation to the issue of diversity."
First year trainee, London
"Very good. Top Stonewall ranking and it is trying hard to improve the gender diversity."
First year trainee, London
"Simmons is one of the best firms in the City regarding diversity, childcare and maternity leave."
First year trainee, London
"We are consistently recognised as top performing legal firm in LGBT rights, as well as being a top 50 employer for women."
Second year trainee, London
"Diversity is a key element of the Simmons & Simmons culture."
First year trainee, London
"There are obvious pushes for greater diversity and recognition of differences. e.g. there is a straight allies programme, women's network, LGBT society, etc. The firm is always ranked very highly in the Stonewall index. There are notably fewer female partners than men and in the last round of partners made up only 2/8 were women."
Second year trainee, London
"Simmons is on the Stonewall index for best LGBT employers again this year as the highest ranking law firm."
Second year trainee, London
