Graduate Programme 2017 - Buyer

Skanska, a leading construction company and developer, is an inclusive and responsible business that is helping to build a better society. Known for major projects like the Gherkin and Crossrail, we are creating, upgrading and maintaining the country’s buildings and infrastructure. Drawing on our Scandinavian heritage, we are green, innovative and progressive. We bring together people and technology, helping to make our industry safer and more collaborative.

Joining us as a Graduate Buyer, you will learn about the negotiation and placing of material, the logging and maintenance of orders, administration of sub-contractor details, performance data and input of information to the database. Your responsibilities will include minimising the cost of materials and plant, improving service level agreements (with suppliers and internal departments) and the implementation of strategic procedural and practical changes to increase productivity and performance. We’ll look to you to obtain quotations to tight deadlines, negotiate with suppliers, and progress the provision of materials and services to meet contract programmes and deadlines.

Educated to 2:1 degree level, having completed an MSc or BSc in a business related subject, you’ll have a passion for the construction industry. You’ll be naturally results driven and hold some technical software knowledge and experience, specifically in multiple purchasing systems. We expect all graduates to be flexible with regards to location and be prepared to relocate during the programme if required.

You’ll have the opportunity to care for people and the environment, to be accountable for future generations, and to not only foster an inclusive culture where we are open and fair, showing trust and respect for one another, but also one where everyone can speak their mind. Are you ready to build for a better society?

Programme start date: 11th September 2017 or immediate start

The deadline for applications is Wednesday 30th November 2016 and assessment centres will be held in December 2016.

We would like you to perform at your best at every stage of our recruitment process. Please contact us if you require any adjustments that would support you throughout your application.

The UK Government have taken steps to reduce net migration to the UK by limiting the number of overseas workers from outside the EEA coming to the UK for employment. Please note that whilst we are able to consider applications from overseas workers from outside the EEA (who require a Tier 2 (General) visa) we can only employ them if we can provide evidence that there are no other suitable candidates for this vacancy from inside the EEA.
