2014

"The application process was very straightforward - I sent in a covering letter and CV and was called to an interview. 30 minutes' writing test and then I had 20 minutes to read a newspaper article and a 45 minute (or so) interview, half about the article, half about my CV."

"Slaughter and May were unusual in that they only required a CV and covering letter to apply rather than a long-winded online application form. This allowed greater scope to highlight particular areas of strength. On the day of the interview I had to complete a short written exercise, (which involved composing an email to a client), and was given an FT article to read which would form the basis of a discussion with the interviewer. I was then interviewed by two partners."

"It was quite straightforward. You send in your CV and cover letter. At the interview, I had to do a 30-minute written assessment and then read a newspaper article. I had a 45-minute interview with half of it on the article and half of it on myself. They challenged me a lot. As for questions about myself, it would start with something basic like, "What do you do in your spare time?" And then get challenged, "Why did you stop doing this?" Or "Why don't you do this as well? Do you lack the confidence?". One odd one I had was, "Why didn't you pick history as your degree? It essentially teaches you the same skills.""
