Smith & Williamson is a leading independently owned financial services firm combining an accountancy practice, investment management arm and a private bank.
It’s our breadth of services that makes us unique in the industry as we provide award-winning services to a broad range of clients such as start-ups, high-net-worth individuals, corporates, professional practices and non-profit organisations.
We have 12 offices around the UK, Ireland and Jersey, and we’re a member of Nexia International, a top 10 global network of independent accounting and consulting firms. This means we’re well-connected to thousands of colleagues around the world, exchanging knowledge and professional expertise daily.
We can offer you much more responsibility than you might expect. You’ll be working on real projects and liaising with our clients from the start — it’s our approach to clients that makes this a more fulfilling place to work.
A career here means having more you-time than you might get in other firms. We believe in getting that work/life balance just right because it’s not just good for you, it’s good for us too.
If you’re looking to get more out of your future, we think you’ll love life with Smith & Williamson.
At Smith & Williamson we recruit high calibre people with the skills, knowledge and commitment to meet the demands of the business. We offer a number of entry routes to start your professional training.
You’ll never know how satisfying it is to be a young professional until you walk through the doors at Smith & Williamson. If you’re the kind of person who likes to follow your own path and you’re looking for something more from your future career, we think you’ll fit right in with us.
Our structured graduate training programmes cover a broad range of areas to produce the future’s brightest accountants, tax advisors and investment managers. Each one is driven towards you becoming ACA, ATT, CTA or CISI qualified.
Graduate Programmes - Graduate Trainees joining departments across assurance & business services, business tax and private client tax services pursue one or more of the following qualifications: Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA). Our investment management trainees work towards the Investment Advice Diploma (IAD) and the Masters in Wealth Management (CISI).
Whichever area you choose, you’ll get first–class training and will develop the skills needed to become a trusted business adviser. In addition, placements in other departments mean greater insight into our business and the chance to expand your networks across the firm.
Summer Internships - You won't be left making the tea on an internship at Smith & Williamson. We want to show you how we work, and find out more about you. And, most importantly, your ability to make the kind of difference we're looking for in our future business advisers. That means getting involved with the type of work that our graduates carry out on a day-to-day basis. Hands-on experience in our tax and business services division can include everything from attending meetings with partners to client visits.
Apprenticeships - If you’re looking for an opportunity where you will be doing real work, for real clients with real responsibility from an early stage, look no further. You’ll also work towards obtaining a recognised professional qualification; either the Certificate of Finance and Business (CFAB) or Associate Tax Technician (ATT).
Smith & Williamson will provide full support throughout your studies, including ongoing in-house training, appraisals, and mentoring. Upon successful completion of the CFAB or ATT qualification and positive performance appraisals, you will have the opportunity to qualify as either a Chartered Accountant (ACA) or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA). Both the ACA and CTA qualification are renowned as one of the most advanced learning and professional development programmes available.
Many of our very best people have worked their way up from where you are now, and they’ll be there to offer advice and support throughout.
