Youth Support Worker 2018 Summer Internship - National Citizen Service powered by Essex County Council

The National Citizen Service (NCS) is an exciting national programme that brings together young people from diverse backgrounds, providing them with strong skills for life, work, and adulthood.

And now Essex County Council is recruiting Team Leaders and Youth Support Workers to deliver this summer’s National Citizen Service (NCS) to young people from across Essex.

This is an amazing opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain experience of working with young people to achieve some really positive results and could suit someone looking for a career in youth work or teaching.

There are start dates in June, July and August, with the duration being four to eight weeks. For two out of the four weeks (or four out of the eight) you will be living in a residential building and supervising the young people - or a tent if you are more outdoors minded. For the remaining weeks you will have to secure your own accommodation.

It will be a mixture of residential work and community projects in the local area. Essex County Council's Youth Service has an excellent reputation and they deliver the programme to young people who live in Brentwood, Uttlesford, Braintree, Colchester, Tendring, Castle Point, Rochford and Maldon.

As an NCS Youth Support Worker you will be supporting staff in guiding groups of young people through their four week journey on the programme. This will include assisting the staff in delivering the programme according to the guidelines and training provided. You will be encouraging the young people to take part in a range of outdoor activities, and supporting them with any challenges they may face.

This programme could be of interest to students and new graduates looking to get into youth and/or social work, teaching, coaching or indeed to those of you who love outdoor activities and want to gain some valuable work experience whilst contributing to a worthwhile programme.

Any degree type will be considered, it is more important that you are enthusiastic and dynamic, able to motivate others and use your skills to add variety and passion to the programme.

You will receive training and support to help you in the role.
