"It's structured yet flexible. I have been able to go on two secondments and spend a large part of my training contract on disputes, which I am most interested in. Partners and associates are also happy to involve juniors and trainees in events, which is great for picking up networking skills."

"I liked the soft-skills training we had about how to work better with colleagues."

"The firm has a lot of comprehensive training. There is extensive trainee training, practice group training and sessions open to anyone."

"It's good to have professional skills course training throughout the training contract, rather than all at the beginning. There are also lots of interesting lunchtime seminars and optional training sessions."

"There are frequent practice group talks and trainee training events. These range from legal seminars to presentation skills. The quality of training is generally very good and frequent."

"There are plenty of training sessions from both internal and external speakers. Some are good, many are excellent and give you a great insight into other practice groups."

"We were given a week-long induction at the firm, complete with all the necessary IT, compliance and legal research training. We are continuously invited to attend know-how sessions and presentations on recent legal developments. The firm's know-how sessions are excellent, and they really put an effort to fine-tune your legal skills. In terms of non-legal skills, I've improved my IT skills, for example learning several shortcuts on the keyboard so that I can avoid spending long hours formatting."

"Prior to joining the firm, we were invited to attend presentations focusing on different practice groups. This tied in neatly with the modules we were studying on the LPC. The training contract started with a week's intensive training in order to become familiar with the firm's systems as well as time recording. My practice group has also hosted various training seminars for trainees. This has been really beneficial. I would say that I have developed my legal/press research capabilities, but also developed other non-legal skills such as effective organisation and time management."

"We attend PSC courses throughout our training contract, during which we develop multiple practice-based skills such as negotiation, drafting and advocacy. In addition, each department holds regular 'knowhow' sessions given by particular lawyers/experts within the department to the whole team in order to boost understanding of particular topics."

"Incredible training. Legal skills I have picked up include drafting, department specific training. Non-legal skills include client facing, presentation, IT and people skills."
First year trainee, London
"Stephenson Harwood offers a comprehensive induction and on-going training programmes."
First year trainee, London
"There are a couple of departmental talks every month. Some fee-earners will spend more time than others explaining the background of a matter/why you have been asked to carry out a specific task. Since starting my training contract, I have noticed a considerable improvement in my drafting (security documents/general letter writing), research skills and organisation."
