"As a general rule all fee earners have an 'open-door' policy and I have been given constructive feedback on my work. Many of the solicitors/partners are keen to teach you."

"You will often have direct access to partners, unless they are really busy, by doing work for them. If you don't have much contact with them, your supervisor will try to ensure you receive some contact with them. Supervisors are the best mentors, as they will often give you feedback about your work, but also how you should work with your colleagues and the support staff. The level of informal training and mentoring is excellent and you constantly feel like you are on a learning curve."

"My supervisor has been very supportive and has answered any queries that I have had. Feedback is usually very good - you are pointed to what you did well and where you can improve. You are allowed to make mistakes at the firm - it's not repeating them that counts."

"It's very useful to be able to learn from watching and working with solicitors and partners. It can sometimes be difficult to find the time to get detailed feedback/mentoring, but it is always extremely useful when received. Open praise is quite rare: it is widely acknowledged that if you hear nothing back, you have done a good job!"
