"Partners have generally been very supportive and available to discuss not just work in relation to ongoing matters, but also general career advice."

"My supervisor is excellent and he is always happy to answer my questions. Other supervisors are also good to work for and are appreciative of the work you do for them."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is defined by how accessible associates and partners are. I think of my previous supervisors as mentors who I can go to about my career and not just work. Partners do make the effort to recognise hard work. For example, having worked as part of the corporate team on a high-profile deal, I was invited with the team to attend the awards the deal was nominated for."
Second year trainee, London
"It's good to have high-level associates/partners as supervisors and well structured reviews."
First year trainee, London
"Many of the partners are approachable and often provide good feedback. Many of the associates are very good at taking time out of their busy days to explain the law."
First year trainee, London
"My supervisor was very keen to teach me about the niche area of law I was working in and the mid- and end-seat reviews were very comprehensive in feedback."
First year trainee, London/Dubai
"All the lawyers are approachable and enthusiastic to help. Feedback and appreciation is always given."

"It really depends on the personality of each supervisor but mostly people are really interested in giving trainees good work opportunities and constructive feedback."

"As a general rule all fee earners have an 'open-door' policy and I have been given constructive feedback on my work. Many of the solicitors/partners are keen to teach you."
First year trainee, London
"You will often have direct access to partners, unless they are really busy, by doing work for them. If you don't have much contact with them, your supervisor will try to ensure you receive some contact with them. Supervisors are the best mentors, as they will often give you feedback about your work, but also how you should work with your colleagues and the support staff. The level of informal training and mentoring is excellent and you constantly feel like you are on a learning curve."
First year trainee, London
"My supervisor has been very supportive and has answered any queries that I have had. Feedback is usually very good - you are pointed to what you did well and where you can improve. You are allowed to make mistakes at the firm - it's not repeating them that counts."
First year trainee, London
"Associates particularly are very accessible. Partner availability varies, but in general supervisors have been happy to give time to trainees."

"It's very useful to be able to learn from watching and working with solicitors and partners. It can sometimes be difficult to find the time to get detailed feedback/mentoring, but it is always extremely useful when received. Open praise is quite rare: it is widely acknowledged that if you hear nothing back, you have done a good job!"
Second year trainee, London
"Partners and other solicitors are very approachable and I have never felt uncomfortable asking any questions. We are encouraged to learn from the secretarial team and paralegals who are all great."
First year trainee, London
"I haven't received any feedback yet. Partners are accessible and good at explaining and discussing issues they are working on."
First year trainee, London
"I have had some who are fantastic mentors. Generally most are approachable and happy to give trainees opportunities."
Second year trainee, London
"Feedback varies, could probably be a little better than it is, (people often too busy to sit down with you except when things have gone wrong...)."
Second year trainee, London
"We are given feedback by our supervisors in our mid-seat and end-seat reviews. I would prefer to receive more on-the-spot feedback."
