2018

"This varies by practice group. I was able to do high-level research and drafting in commercial litigation. With corporate/private equity, many ancillary documents have to be drafted so it was more tedious but the pace of deals ensured that it was never dull."
Second year trainee, London
"I am pleased that I get to manage small matters on my own. I have learned a lot about client communication, internal processes at the firm and file management in real estate."
First year trainee, London
"My day-to-day role varies massively but, because trainees are given a lot of responsibility, it means that you get to work on all aspects of a deal. There is a lot of ongoing management work in real estate and, as a trainee, I was able to manage my own matters from inception and draft and negotiating contracts. Similarly, in corporate, I was relied on to manage the due diligence process but also draft documents and attend all board meetings."
Second year trainee, London
"I have had a lot of responsibility from the start and have been trusted with a range of high-profile work for clients with household names."
First year trainee, London
"Depending on the practice group and client, the work can range from negotiating and drafting agreements with supervision from a partner to bundling. The work is generally very good and boring tasks are to be expected in any firm."
First year trainee, London
"I have been given a lot of responsibility in both practice groups that I have worked in. I also have a lot of client management responsibilities, which I enjoy."
First year trainee, London
"I get very interesting work and felt that I was given the right balance of responsibility as a trainee."
First year trainee, London/Dubai
"From day one I have had to read judgements, check provisions in legal instruments to help write instructions to counsel, do research and write reports, liaise with client and/or counsel and so on. The expectation is high but my supervisor has been helpful by giving constructive feedback and advice."

"I am given plenty to do, being challenged to get it done to deadlines and I am being given regular feedback so I am learning a lot."
First year trainee, London
"The work you are set varies according the seat, but during my training contract overall I have had considerable opportunity for direct client contact as well as the chance to take on significant responsibility."
Second year trainee, London
"My day-to-day responsibilities include document management, drafting letters and emails, and legal research."
First year trainee, London
"I have almost daily emails or calls with clients though less face-to-face contact. I also have a high level of responsibility but good level of supervision."
Second year trainee, London
"I have had a good level of client interaction in my litigation seats. Most day-to-day work has consisted of organising documents and bundles for trials and hearings, taking attendance notes at meetings and court and completing research tasks."
First year trainee, London
"I have been given a lot of client interaction (I have even been able to manage a case effectively on my own). I am involved with legal and press research, as well as administrative responsibilities such as maintaining correspondence."
First year trainee, London
"In my current seat I have had some client interaction, although it is currently less than in some of the other seats. I do a lot of legal and commercial research, and have also done some early drafting of fairly important contracts for some well-known transport companies."
First year trainee, London

"I have a relatively small amount of client contact, more liaising with other council. I have managed to do a lot of drafting and work on a variety of matters."
First year trainee, London
"I have had lots of client interaction in both of my seats so far. I do a lot of drafting and transaction management."
First year trainee, London
"I have spoken to other lawyers working on the same deal but not with clients. Day-to-day responsibilities in Finance include drafting documents/sending applications to Companies House and keeping track of Conditions Precedent documents as they come in before draw-down."
First year trainee, London
"I have attended quite a few client meetings and business development meetings/events. I have also been on a client secondment. The work is generally varied and challenging and I have been made to feel part of the team."
Second year trainee, London
"My role is to support the associate and partner to whom I work in corporate transactions. I have some client contact (around two client meetings or calls a week)."
First year trainee, London
"Main responsibilities include document management, drafting security documents and corporate authorities and liaising with foreign counsel/clients. I have significant client interaction and fee earners are happy for me to correspond with clients independently."
First year trainee, London
