Training Contracts 2019

Stevens & Bolton LLP is a leading national law firm based in Guildford, offering a full range of commercial legal services both nationally and internationally. We are looking to recruit five trainees to join us in September 2019.

Trainee profile

We welcome applications from candidates with either a law or non-law background, with at least 340 UCAS points and one grade A at A level, who have achieved (or expect to achieve) a 2.1 degree or higher (unless there are exceptional circumstances). Essential qualities include: very good communication skills, drive and ambition, intelligence, attention to detail, business interest and genuine enthusiasm for wanting to be a lawyer and to work at Stevens & Bolton.

Training and development

Our trainees have genuine responsibility and experience of dealing with clients - and are made to feel part of the team from day one. Trainee seats will be available in most of the key business areas we specialise in, namely M&A and other corporate work, Insolvency and Banking/Finance, Commercial, Private Wealth and Family, Real Estate, IP, Dispute Resolution and Employment, Pensions and Immigration. We do our best to maximise your ability to experience as many of those areas as possible. Currently we operate a six four-month seat rotation, this will change to a four six-month seat rotation in 2018.

One key initiative is our foundation training scheme which we have designed specifically for trainees. Led by lawyers from across the firm, the scheme aims to equip trainees with the basics in our key practice areas. At Stevens & Bolton there are regular departmental social events, and we have drinks for all staff every month. We also run other social and client events which include opportunities to get involved in sporting activities, in addition we have trainee dinners for both current and future trainees.


We offer a very competitive starting salary of £32,000 and a comprehensive benefits package.

Sponsorship & rewards

We pay the fees for the CPE/GDL and LPC at the level set by the University of Law Guildford and a maintenance grant for each course of study. Any future trainees who are yet to take their LPC or the GDL are usually required to attend the University of Law Guildford.
