Formal Training

8.3 / 10

(based on 9 ratings in 2016)

2016

"We have received extensive training on all aspects of the firm – both technical and departmental."
First year trainee, Guildford
"There is extensive in-firm training on a variety of topics. Some is trainee-specific (such as 'how to make an impact as a trainee') while some is offered to the whole firm (such as 'presentation skills' or 'dealing with different working techniques'). Trainees also complete the professional skills course, which works well with the internal training sessions."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"The IT training is very thorough and intense. Some departments offer very formal training programmes while others have a more learn-on-the-go attitude. Our training schedule can be sporadic and occasionally comes late. The skills training done by the learning and development team is excellent."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"We undertook extensive IT training when we first started and also had a varied induction programme including introductions to various departments and other business functions (marketing, faculties etc). I think there is likely to be further training throughout the training contract."
First year trainee, Guildford
"The training is incredible. As well as the training you get from doing your day-to-day jobs and being given very high quality and varied work, there are constant training sessions to keep your technical knowledge and soft skills up to date."
First year trainee, Guildford
"There's good training and they really listen to feedback to improve the training options, which is great."

"I think the training programme is well-thought out and there is a real emphasis on developing other non-legal skills e.g. time management, presentation skills, etc. The firm also offers comprehensive legal training and most of the departments offer sessions focussing on their specific practice areas."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"The firm runs a continuous schedule of seminars, lunchtime meetings and other discussions on both legal and non-legal topics. I've attended seminars on how to sleep better, effective time management, public speaking and dealing with difficult clients and colleagues."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"The training is thorough and helpful. In particular, the IT training allows us to understand the systems and provides a good basis for work."
First year trainee, Guildford
"The initial training is extensive to ensure that trainees know how to use the systems and complete work. There is also department specific training that goes on throughout each seat, which clarifies and elaborates on relevant areas of the law."
First year trainee, Guildford
"The firm is improving all the time in terms of the training it provides and regularly responds to any feedback it receives. For example, there is a new Lawyers with Business skills programme which offers really interesting sessions and also a range of programmes based on well-being and unusual topics such as dealing with difficult colleagues (not by popular demand!) and upward delegation."
Second year trainee, Guildford

2014

"The firm offers a number of training opportunities, both skills based and department based - though at times there can be a little too much training."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"The supervision is excellent and partners or more junior lawyers will always spend the time explaining something or going through a piece of work."
First year trainee, Guildford
"The training contract runs on a six four-month seat rotation system which is useful to experience a wide variety of departments. During our time on the training contract we also get basic IT and legal library training."
