"Partners are very approachable and any 'silly' questions have been answered without judgement. I'm always given feedback on my work and also given guidance on how to come across as a good trainee."
First year trainee, Guildford
"My supervisor sees me bi-weekly for a catch up in addition to spending every day with me in the same office. Colleagues frequently let us know if we are doing well."
First year trainee, Guildford
"Every trainee has a thorough end-of-seat review with their supervisor. There is also a good level of feedback throughout each seat and most supervisors do a mid-seat review. As trainees share an office with their supervisor, they are always on hand to offer advice or answer questions. Most colleagues will take the time to express praise or constructive criticism, particularly if you seek feedback from them. The culture reflects that you are here to learn and improve as a trainee, not just churn out work."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"Everyone is very accessible but partners can sometimes be very busy and there is no formal mentor scheme set up until you are an associate. Trainees have buddies but I think a more senior mentor would be better. Some partners are excellent and I've been praised by them for work that I've done."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"We were buddied with a current trainee when we were hired, which gave us a good insight into the firm early on. It also helped us to get to know people in the firm before joining."
First year trainee, Guildford
"Trainee supervisors are really well chosen. There is a buddy scheme that turns into a mentoring scheme with a more senior lawyer upon qualification, which works well too."

"In my experience, senior colleagues are all very accessible and, if you ask for it, you get good feedback."
First year trainee, Guildford
"The trainee supervisors are good mentors and other members of staff, particularly the more junior solicitors, also offer a good level of support to trainees. Feedback is generally forthcoming and colleagues are usually willing to have wider discussions around the case if it is helpful or you are interested."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"The trainee supervisors are all excellent at supporting trainees through their seats, conducting regular informal catch-ups to discuss recent work and to ensure trainees don't get overloaded with work. In my first seat my supervisor was one of the most senior partners in the firm. I found he and the other senior members of staff to be highly accommodating with their time, making sure as far as was possible to provide me with constructive one-on-one feedback on my work."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"I have weekly review meetings from my supervisor every Tuesday. We look at the work I have completed and things which are still outstanding. We have established objectives which I will look to meet during my seat."
First year trainee, Guildford
"Everyone at the firm is approachable, and works hard to ensure trainees feel comfortable with the work they are being asked to do. Feedback is promptly given on most pieces of work, and trainees sit in an office with their supervisors so any questions can easily be answered. There is also a buddy system in place so trainees have a newly qualified solicitor they can go to with either work specific questions, or anything more general."
First year trainee, Guildford
"A formal mentoring programme is being introduced but trainees learn from a variety of partners along the way who all really invest in mentoring. There are also regular feedback sessions and reviews which are always helpful."
Second year trainee, Guildford

"Trainees generally receive feedback on their work and are paired with a senior associate from day one who acts as a mentor."
Second year trainee, Guildford
"We receive regular feedback on work and also have career reviews which are a very useful way of seeing how you have performed and what others have to say about you."
First year trainee, Guildford
"Trainees are allocated a specific mentor at the firm and have arranged lunches to catch up with them throughout the training contract."
