Graduate Mechatronic Engineer

RAL Space Department at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory develops space instruments and ground-based astronomy instruments for agencies including ESA, NASA and ESO, and other commercial customers. The Project Management Group within the Space Engineering and Technology Division requires a graduate project manager to join the team of engineers working on a number of different projects. SUMMARY OF KEY DUTIES The Graduate will work under the direct supervision of one of our senior project managers, supporting them in managing a number of our many projects for spacecraft instruments. Duties include, but may not be limited to: • Scheduling of tasks and activities on a project • Identifying resource and schedule conflicts, and proposing solutions as appropriate. • Monitoring the finances of projects • Writing reports for senior management and customers • Organising meetings and reviews as required • Liaising with all members of the project team • Writing of project proposals and bids for new work • Be vigilant in terms of health and safety • Help with outreach activities and tours of the Division. As a Graduate Project Manager you will be expected to work towards recognised qualifications with the APM. You will be given technical and non-technical training appropriate to your previous experience. RESPONSIBILITIES • Developing project plans for senior project managers • Updating resource information in RAL Space’s resource management tool • Organising project meetings with internal staff and external customers • Generating project documentation, such as minutes of meeting and progress reports • Monitor progress of internal team and external contractors • Updating schedules • Procurement of low cost components • Reviewing project documentation and providing critical feedback • Maintaining action item database EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED • Excellent organisational skills, and the ability to multi-task • Excellent written and communication skills • Good PC literacy skills • Self-motivated • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team • Diligent • Excellent attention to detail • Experience creating and maintaining Gantt charts • Knowledge of how the Space industry operates in the UK and Europe • Experience of managing a group of people to complete a project
