Graduate Electronic Design Engineer

My client is a small, independent electronics design and manufacturing business specialising in design and manufacture of precision electronic test systems and equipment used within the semiconductor industry. The types of system and equipment vary, using a diverse array of technologies including DSP, FPGA, Real-time Linux, power electronics and digital servo. The business has a large focus on research and development, doing a large amount of leading, specialist research on different ways of designing test systems, being known in particular as an expert in field leader in power MOSFET testing. Design and prototyping is done in house, manufacturing is often outsourced to trusted local partners in the United Kingdom. They supply clients around the world, and it’s worth noting the businesses biggest market is East Asia.

Although they are a small business they have a streamlined, organised and professional approach to work that is reflected in the results they have in their research, high annual sales and success. It’s also worth saying that it is a friendly, open work environment with excellent recognition for the work you do and the problems you solve.

I am currently recruiting a graduate electronic design engineer to join their research and development team. You would be directly involved in developing electronic equipment for blue chip businesses testing the latest semiconductor devices. Your role would be design focused early on, using the technologies mentioned above and to create equipment using precision high dynamic linear circuits operating from 1Na OT 1000A and 1uV to 10,000 V. The role will also involve testing and prototyping of your designs. There is some programming work involved, however this is a lower proportion of the work then in some other electronics roles.

Duties include:

  • Design and layout of electronic circuitry for hardware including very significant analogue design work
  • Use of CAD/CAE technology for design and simulation
  • Maintaining and building knowledge of both analogue and digital electronics technology
  • FPGA design work with Quartus in VHDL
  • Some embedded programming of PICs and microprocessors in both C and C++
  • Testing and validation
  • Programming
  • Prototyping
  • Sourcing of products/ liaising with suppliers
  • Team working with different engineers both within the business, manufacturing partners and in client businesses

You will need to have:

  • Electronics bachelors or masters degree (or very related with significant electronics content)
  • Able to communicate clearly about technical concepts
  • Work experience in an electronics sector role preferred but not essential
  • Project work and studies covering both analogue and digital technology
  • Experience with design software
  • Knowledge of C and C++
  • Positive approach and pride taken in work undertaken

In return, the business can offer you a rewarding environment and a career where you can see your designs being realised very early on in actual products and systems being built and used on manufacturing sites across the world. Full training will be provided to the right candidate on systems, software and way of working.

Interested? Please send me a copy of your CV and a cover letter outlining your interest in electronics and your motivation for this role.
